New mxr bass distortion!

I showed my girlfriend the Dunlop/Jeff Matz vid. I have been told to buy the pedal. So there you go. She's never cared or taken any interest in my pedal comings and goings til now. Ha.

I just bought this pedal and am blown away. By far, the best bass distortion I have ever used. Capable of a transparent Tubey overdrive to a raunchy edge of chaos sound. Props to Ryan and mxr for ending my 8 year quest for a dirt pedal!
Everything I thought it would be and then some. Did not expect it to be as versatile as it is. You think "Rat" and you think "hard distortion," but this one will do everything from a slight purr to full-on rage. Does not require dry mix to sound good on bass like the original Rat but does sound great with some dry mixed in. Another cool thing about it is that it's very easy to adjust on the fly without screwing your volume levels. Would not recommend going in between LED and silicon modes on a gig because LED greatly boosts, but both modes are very cool. At lower settings, the difference between the two isn't as pronounced but when you open it up it becomes more apparent that LED mode is wider and behaves pretty much as Ryan says. I'm pretty much sold on silicon mode for everything, though. Sounds most Rat-like to me.
Anyway, it's a home run as far as I'm concerned, and the demos are quite accurate to real life so I won't bother doing one myself
But yeah, really digging this pedal. A lot. A whole lot.
Changed my mind about that LED mode not being as useful to me once I heard it through headphones going through my REDDI and SCR-DI's speaker simulation. Still don't think I'd change it during a gig lest my levels fluctuate too much (EDIT: there's a trimpot inside to tone down the LED gain...that's what I get not reading the manual first), but I'm finding some really useful stuff with it. Love how it sounds when I combine it with my JohnK Greedtone OD clone or the Scrambler in my SCR-DI. Also digging it with the MXR BFD and JohnK Animato clone, but wondering how much of a need I have for that intense a fuzz sound. I would say in my oldies band, not much

ok, my G.A.S. is developing, sounds like a winner pedal. To be honest: the last 2 MXR dirt pedals (M89 Overdrive + M84 Fuzz Deluxe) disappointed ME(!) really really bad, cause i was going to setup an MXR-only board (Compressor, Envelope Filter, Carbon Copy) and only the dirt section was incomplete. Sold the M89 & M84 quick, maybe it´s time for the M85 ...

I'm sure I'll prefer the MXR in most cases for my tone goals but I gotta say I prefer the tone you get with the Diabolik and Casady together. Something about those two together really works.
Thom, I'd love you forever if you could demo it with your Jag and favor the P pickup.
The Casady is a touchy little beasty to add dirt to. Most distortions sound bad with it. In fact the Depth Charge, which is "brassmaster based", even sounds like poo with it. There's only 5 or 6 gain pedals which do the trick. The results of this one pleasantly surprised me.
Hey all, slapped this little audio demo down quickly because of a couple requests to hear what mellower OD tones you can get out of the Bass Distortion. Went through both LED mode and Silicon mode. Precision with EMG Geezer Butler P and newish Dunlop Super Bright Nickels run through Ampeg SCR-DI for its 5k highs rolloff and A-Designs REDDI. All sounds recorded wet, never dry.
