New MXR pedals

I just played the overdrive and the bass chorus. the overdrive is based on the pork loin, but slightly modified... it sounds fantastic!! you guys are going to die when you hear the bass chorus. it has bass and treble controls, a switchable crossover, and switchable Flanger function. it is a much richer chorus than the analog chorus

A bass OD based on the Pork Loin? Sold.

I'm definitely going to try the OD if its as good as the pork loin It will save me a little space on my board. It will be a sad day if the pork loin has to go it has served me well. Probably gonna have to give that chorus a try too though it sounds pretty cool might have to sell the M9 and downsize to an M5.

Wasn't the case for me. Thanks to the top jacks, my Pork Loin takes up less space than my MXR pedals. MXR may be smaller, but once you get the cables plugged in the sides, they're pretty wide.

Man I wish they would switch to top mounted jacks.

Indeed! Interested in the bass overdrive especially. I'm also a big fan. I just made a quick search, couldn't find a release date.

The Bass Chorus should be ready to ship in December and the OD should be ready post-NAMM. On with the pics:

I would've taken a pic on the OD with the LED on, but it's a blinding white light!!

BOD

Also, is your name a reference to Zoomie from Avatar?

I thought it was the BOD.
And you're not the first person to ask that. But it is not. When I was younger (in like '10) I wanted to be in the Air Force when I grew up, hence the 'AF', and then my dad was like "Don't be a Zoomie when you grow up" because he was an ex-Army officer. And some people call guys in the Air Force Zoomies, because that's the sound planes make, no? :p So I just put them both together, plus the number I had for football, and that's the story of my screename!

That's pretty exciting news. I hope they nail the bass OD. I had the most trouble finding good bass OD's. There are many options for all the other kinds of pedals (fuzz, distortion, flanger, boosts, phasers, envelope filters, chorus....) but OD's I see one perhaps two good options and these have issues of their own so hopefully they will hit a home run.

Using the Pork Loin as a starting point is good. The blend is good too. I hope they keep it fairly subtle and natural sounding. Many overdrives sound like tamed down tube screamers.

I also continue to be impressed by how much attention MXR is paying to bass players. I suspect it's a bit a labor of love since the number of bass players is low and the number of bass players using pedals is even lower. You put out a new guitar pedal and you probably see big numbers; a bass product not so much.

It's also nice to note that in an environment where their competitors (Boss/EHX) have had no new bass products in a long time, this company keeps on pushing and releasing new products. It seems like they have a plan to offer a full range of bass products and they just knock out one or two every year.

So is the chorus digital? I thought all their pedals were analog.
Also, anyone else kinda wish they had 1/2 knob bass pedals? I'd love a bass version of the Dist+ or Micro Flanger, regarding the set-it-and-forget-it idea.

The Chorus is analog, as is everything else in the line. The nicest touch on the analog chorus was the crossover function. Darryl engaged it while I was playing a droney riff on the high G along with a low Drop-D...the low string was unscathed in both Chorus and Flanger modes while the high notes rang lushly with all of their swirly glory!

You're going to love the OD guys! Although definitely based on the PL, it seems to have more "cut" to the tone and you can dial in a lot of detail via the clean. It doesn't work like the BFD did, it' more of bringing in clean signal along with your dirty grind and controlling your overall levels. Laurent, you WILL dig this one!

Soundclips for the OD anyone? Curiousity can lead to GAS :D

Too new for either one yet. I actually just saw the finished product for both for the first time on Saturday morning. MXR has become very much a bassist friendly company. A lot of it has to do with there being several KILLER bassists within the company. Scott Skiraki is a killer player with plenty or chops and as for Darryl Anders...well, ask anyone who has heard him in action! :bassist:
