New Origin Effects DCX Bass

I'm not sure I understand the concept here. An emulation of a studio preamp without a balanced XLR output? You're basically running the console into the amp, rather than the opposite. The eq section is also extremely limited (like on a real 610), basically just high/low shelf, no mid control.

As someone who owns an actual 610 as well as a nice selection of other studio preamp I would have been far more excited about a bass oriented Neve-in-a-box pedal. Don't get me wrong, the 610 can be very nice for bass but it's not really THAT special. A Neve 1073 with the input pushed into saturation on the other hand... now that's pure MAGIC for bass guitar! It would still seem rather pointless without a balanced output though.

At least it's not nearly as expensive as their BassRig pedals but with this feature set it's basically just a glorified dirt pedal IMO. Which is ok as long as you know what you're buying and can get some cool tones out of it I guess.

Mine gets here Friday. I’m gonna make a vid comparing it in a few different setups.
I’m gonna try it into the bass rigs with and w/o Cali76. Also going to try it into the Noble with and w/o Cali76.
Also going to have it drive into my acme di.
All with a few types of basses.

The best thing about their bass rigs is the reactivity. It’s that feel you know? Same thing as the Noble. Is it the “sag”? Whatever it is it Just feels right. So if it’s like that I’m sure it’s gonna be special.

The difference is of course that the BassRig pedals are supposed to imitate the tone and feel of playing a real tube amp+cab. This is an imitation of a studio microphone preamp with no cab and no output tubes.

The Caveman BP1 has you covered for that sort of thing. I can see why Origin didn't want to do another 1073 or 312 clone as there are tons on the market in a variety of formats, but like you I can't understand the DI omission.

I’ll be running my Origin DCX into my Caveman BP1. Stacking studio preamp sims like a madman.

Im very interested to hear what people think of this pedal. I currently have 3 preamp/DI pedals on my board (CAPO/Khan/Alpha). So I’m all about the feel/tone enhancement thing, and each of those adds specific elements that I really like. I don’t care so much about the dirt aspect, but I’m interested in the inspiration I can get from overall tone and feel given by pedals like this.

I would’ve liked to see an xlr out also. A mic level xlr in (like the jhs colourbox) would’ve been awesome too

the ability to run it after my SV with the cab sim would’ve been a huge win for me

Yeah, I hear ya. I have a UA volt 276 interface and it has a function “vintage preamp” which is a Digi 610. And it sounds freaking amazing! If I can have that with an adjustable gain and some eq functions in an all analog, reactive circuit, in a pedal from a company with a reputation of making awesome bass pedals…
Yeah, I’ll give it a try.

I'm not the type to buy something quite this quickly but I did (be here Friday?) and am also going to test this pre Noble to how the two play together. I have to believe it's going to sound amazing but I'll try to manage my expectations.

Honestly, recognizing that this is based on a console pre, I gotta say the distortion sounds killer and is exactly what I've been trying to source. It's as if OE tapped into my brain and came up with the exact pedal to fit the sound, form factor, and controls I've been trying to find.
