New pickguard for my Lakland 55-02

Just thought I'd share
I looked for many pictures of a 55-xx with the Cherry burst and pickguard but found nothing so here's mine with it's newly adorned pickguard.

Looks NICE! I went a different route with a 55-02 that I used to have. Didn't drill it, just glued screw heads onto it and used a strategically placed piece of tape underneath to make it stick.

Smart move there. I did that with my moddy PG, minus the screw head trick. I never really thought of it, but it would have made it look a bit better. OFcourse it had the holes already, I just liked being able to pop the PG off if I felt like it. THe OPs cherry burst is really pretty, but that guard accents it well and leaves the all important border pretty much uncovered. I dig it.

Nice one! I just got me an old 55-94 that's pearl white w/ tort guard I must admit it's grown on me. I used to not like the pickguard on the 55-XX basses but my new baby has made me open to it.

I think the part I like most on my particular bass is that it gives it more spice and doesn't make it look like an 80's all white bass - just not my thing.

I got the pickguard off of ebay, but it was from the same people as the link provided a few posts back.


I also just used double stick tape, and actually plan on doing that exact same screw head thing. It looks funny with just the holes but I definitely do not want to make any permanent changes other than my flushmount straplocks.

I really dig the looks of a 55-02 and I plan on owning one some day. Either that or a 55-01 with nordies. That guard looks fantastic as well.

Honestly i never liked the look of a pickguard on a 55-02 and left mine as an "all natural" natural. I liked that you could see all the wood without the guard.

But I have to admit, the cherry burst with the pearl pickguard really looks nice. *Really* nice.
