I took them off and put them back on. No issues in my experience

Double Bass New! Pirastro Perpetual Double Bass strings

I'm back to Evah Weichs. I do miss the flexibility and ease of play of the Perpetuals, but the Evah's just sound better on my bass. Also the Perpetuals weirdly got brighter as they aged (particularly with the bow), anybody else had this experience?

I had them on my Chadwick. Slacked and folded daily while on the road for a couple of weeks. They look fantastic, and the response didn’t seem to change for me. I’d say they’re quite robust in that manner.
My Oliv G is back on my bass. I didn't miss its tone as much as its thickness and feel but now that it's back I know why I love it.
Same here. I bought a test set out of sheer curiosity of what I had read in this thread. Definitely a fine set, but sold it. When I put my Genssler Sonores AP set back on to re-compare, I knew what I had missed: their fantastic sound & relative thickness.
When I put the perps on (brand new) their tone was more growly and less thumpy than the Oliv (I posted a few samplers a few pages back). I put the Oliv back just yesterday, I'll give it a few days to settle and report back; my guess is that they are goning to match better now.
I have Perps E and A, Oliv D and G for a couple months now - love the combination. Volume match, tension, bow, all good. The Olivs are more thumpy, but feel much better in hand than others, and this combination bridges the more old school on the top end I like, with the growl down low where and when I want it. After trying many strings I preferred the feel of Pirastro chromesteel, but didn’t want the total thud of the Oliv E and A, so had Spiro W on the bottom. For my playing and bass I wished for a string with the same feel as Oliv, but more fundamental than Spiro W. Along came Perpetuals and they are al that and more. Your clip of the Perps on your Juzek sounded awesome, Sam, and got me to try yet another string - so thank you!
Went back to the Spirogato set (Spirocore E and A and Obligato D and G) and in an instant my bass sounded better. The Perps are nice strings but I don’t think they agreed with my bass. That said, I will hang on to them and either try them on my carved bass or my EUB.
I'm thinking of putting a set on my Hofner 5/8 size... I wonder if the shorter scale length(39.5") will give them a significantly lower tension. I have had a set of Spirocore Solos tuned EADG for the last few years and they have been great.
I can only image the shorter bass will give you a lower tension but the tension will be higher than the solos on the bass now.
I saw the tensions listed for the Perpetual set, and it looks like the G will be similar tension than the Spiro Solo tuned at orchestra(I use the "true" 3/4 set). We'll see... I'm still deciding whether I want to try a brand new set of strings, or just buy another set of Spirocores. I've already done the try a million different strings(and spend way too much $) only to wind up with Spirocores AGAIN haha.

Use the tools at my Dropbox (Link in my signature or one of the string stickies). Either Formulas.html or change the string length in the upper right corner if the excel file. It switches automatically between cm and inches.
I'd have to join you in saying they are my favorite string set so far. The ease of play for these strings is a huge plus for me while still retaining a full and punchy sound. They also bow well. I think that for jazz players wanting a modern bright pizz sound along with a bowable string, these are maybe the best option.

Can you draw a comparison between the two string sets?
Perps are way brighter and more flexible.
I think I’m going to put them on my carved bass and see how they are on a different instrument.
Unfortunately i have only played the EP's on someone else's bass, so my experience is limited. I would say that the EP's are a little easier to bow and a darker, less flexible string. Also a thicker string, Perps are on the thin side. Tonally, i like the Perps more due to the brightness. They cut through the mix nicely.
