The MIJ reissues are different. You can't even see the slot with the pick guard on.

Does the pick guard not have the little divot?? One of many issues with the MIJ Mustang Basses I guess. The dimensions of those compared to a U.S. Mustang Bass are WAY different! I'll just add this to my list of reasons to never get rid of my '66.

I've got a MIJ Mustang re-issue.
I adjusted the truss rod when I bought it new, just to get it where I want it.
It's stayed good for a few years now.

I'm not sure why but this is the first Mustang I can look at and imagine owning. The rest have all been somewhere between meh and ewww for me. I agree that some other colors would be nice. It is also nice to see Fender releasing something "new". During the last couple of years they have been cutting models out of their bass catalog left and right. Hopefully this is the first sign that business is back to normal and new things can be considered.

Truss rod adjustment is a minor issue for me, living in so cal. All 4 of my basses have the adjustment screw at the heel. It is a bit annoying but I set it once and I'm done for at least a year, in most cases multiple years.

Same here. Also, another trick I've learned over the years is this: capo. Since I use flats, I rarely change them. Loosen your strings greatly then capo them. Then, when you take the neck off, no big deal.

The only thing I don't like about the adjustment is that I get nervous that the threads
in the wood might strip out after repeated loosening and tightening.

Metal against wood type thing.
It's the first and only bass I've got that's like that though, so it might be worrying about nothing - IDK.

Anyways, I'm glad to see this new Mustang has a modern adjuster.

I love my Pawn Shop Mustang that I picked up a few years ago, but I'm DYING to hear how this sounds. I saw a picture of a modded Mustang with a full P pickup in it and mused on another thread about how a PJ Mustang would sound.... I find that there's an innate rubbery-ness to them due to the short scale, not just in the feel but in tone as well. I wonder if that would translate over to the PJ config. And how does the J sound soloed? SO MANY QUESTIONS!

I emailed Fender about when they would be available to buy, and got this response:

"It looks like they will be available in October."

I guess good things come to those who wait (or something like that).
4 months seems like a long time right now - ha ha.
Maybe they'll turn up sooner - who knows.

This is the first Fender news for a long time where almost everyone has responded positively. They clearly noticed the recent interest in Mustangs, and people asking for different colours. If these feel good, I'm buying one for sure.

This is great! I am VERY happy to see the standard bridge. I sold my Mustangs because the string-through ONLY required medium scale strings with few choices.

Looks like it might have a smaller headstock than the big, vintage-y one on the MIJ reissue, which will help with any balance/neck dive issues.

I love my MIJ Mustang, but those boat anchor tuners on that big ol' headstock do make it dive some.

Even already having a Mustang and a Squier Jag SS…I want one of these!

Not that I doubt you. But I'm willing to bet that it sounds like a P/J, and feels like a Mustang.

My Mustang and P/J sound different from each other.

Definitely a bit more like a Mustang. Not quite as throaty as a full P/J, if that makes any sense.

Me too, Jables!! I have a Mustang, and the Squier Jag SS, and a Fender Modern Player Jazz SS, and I also really want one of these P/J Mustangs! It might be the first bass I get that I have no justification to buy other than I just want one. Lol.

For comparison:

I really dig it, the J pick up will sharpen it up a bit tone-wise, which will be excellent (I had a MIJ competition stripe reissue that I loved but found a bit too mushy). A mint guard with the white body would look sharp. I hope the price is low enough.
