New PJ Mustang at Summer NAMM

Why couldn't Fender make a really good medium and even short scale bass? I have to believe there is a market for basses like this. Not just student basses tarted up with old pickups. A new body style, new colors? Why do they keep rehashing the same old stuff ?

This is a new SS bass..with a PU config never offered on this model before....wasn't the recently re-done Starcaster medium scale? Recent new Coronado, many new/recent variations on the SS with the Jags..Jaguars were never available for basses until recently.. Fender Japan has always had medium scale options - the MP SS Jazz seemed to get love...if people buy Jazz 24s, Dimensions (both the original version and the recent new/very different version) and Zones etc, they will keep making new basses...when folks don't, they get discontinued - why would they continue to produce items that lose money? They are a business. The new Elites have redesigned Pres and PUs, a new style compound neck radius/FB feel, new finish....the MIA Standards were upgraded in 08 and new CS PUs added in '12...all in a shrinking market with the impending GC collapse and being owed millions...Fender gets ripped for anything new they try and anything they do traditionally..

The converter I used shows $579.39 - close enough. I'm sure some places will have them at the projected $549.

With a name like L.A. Music, you'd think it was in the US.
like Kentucky Fried Chicken seems like it would be in Kentucky? Or... New York Fries, Boston Pizza...even funnier is Canadian Bacon...which isn't really a thing in Canada/Peameal would be far more common.....

I knew something was off when I saw a Long Island Iced Tea at every bar here in SW China... ;)

No kidding. Fender sees a pent up demand for a good quality SS and since the MIJ Mustangs are no more, they decide to make a decent MIM model with a different PU configuration. They'll sell a bunch of these for a while and when sales drop off it will be discontinued and something different will show up. They'll have made money but aren't stuck making any particular model forever. Too many folks on here seem to think if a model isn't offered continuously for 20+ years, it must be a failure. It's not. It's just smart business.

Color options and price can be seen at Invalid Link Removed for European costumers. It says they will be available on october 3rd. Really looking forward to buying one in torino red!
Torino Red rocks !

I hope it's like the MIM Fender Traditional series Torino Red they used in the 90's.

The current Squire Bronco Torino Red is a bit different shade.

It'll be interesting to hear the difference between the new one and the MIJ reissues. - Strictly thinking about the new one with the j pickup turned off. - It seems like MIM's often times have a less vibrant tone than MIJs. I hope they offer a reasonably priced case too.

I just got my P/J Mustang in the mail at home from Fender today, but I'm out on the road!!! Gonna try it out when I get home Monday, it looks gorgeous. I've been playing my 70s Musicmaster on tour since I threw out my neck, so I'm so psyched to try this other light one out; hoping for a lot more richness in tone and clarity than the MM but without too much more weight.

Sweet! Do you know the weight of it already? I was surprised how heavy my MIJ Mustang was. Sounds great though.

I have a friend who is endorsed by Fender and I got to play his last Thursday. It's a really nice bass! I liked it. The J pickup is amazing, and blended with the P is top notch. I have a PJ Jag myself so I may be biased but I may get one of these. I also heard it during a recording session and it cut through beautifully. I personally never liked the look of the OG mustang pickup, so this new-ish look is really nice.

He probably just recieved it, still had the plastic on the P pickup. Not completely sure if he's had it set up yet, but the setup wasn't terrible.

I had no idea what it was when he pulled it out, as I've never researched Mustangs but after that I had to and I found this thread. My friend's was Candy Apple Red so that's another color option that will probably be available (in classic Fender fashion) I'm excited for these

*Oh and it was relatively light as well!
