Nice looking bridge. How is the headpiece working out? I had an adapter for single-ball on my old Steinberger, but the act of tightening down the hex screws to clamp the strings would often cut through the outer string windings, causing the string to fail. How was that solved on the headpiece?

Hi Gilmourisgod, I don't know the Steinberger system, but I use the same system as ABM, Strandberg, Hipshot, etc, to fix the string, the screw smashes the string but it didn't cut it.
 
I'm toying around with the idea of installing the system on a "sacrificial" Carvin 5 but I've run across a couple of problems which may or may not nullify one another:

*The headpiece is 47 mm wide, the nut width is 44 mm.

*This Carvin has an older headstock-accessible truss rod (pic below). The headstock is tilted; the truss rod is not (duh!) so it may be a bit tough / tight getting a thin-walled nut driver into position. Not to worry as I've been using a closed-end 1/4" wrench at 90 degrees.

Here's what I'm thinking: Install the headpiece ~22 mm beyond the nut. The headstock footprint flares out enough to provide a well-fitting foundation while maintaining a faux "Status Bendwell" gap exposing the truss rod nut. I'll probably be resigned to using extra-long string sets to accommodate the clamping system. I've probably overlooked something so have at it!

Actually I have gebass6, but I sold all my stock and now I'm producing more parts. Today my supplier told me the parts got ready from anodization process, I just have to engrave the logo and activate the ad on ebay. I'll have it soom.
 
How do the ergonomics work out with the tuning knobs relative to the body? I'm just exploring some ideas for an instrument, and I'd rather not have the cut out in the body if I can help it, but if its that or an instrument that's a PITA tuning I'll take the cutout. For various reasons too complicated to explain I'm looking at a Telecaster body profile headless semi acoustic, and a complete cutout might look a little odd. How has the modified Fernandez worked out in practice? Do you find yourself wanting to scallop the body out a bit?

Hi Jim, actually I don't know a lot about Fernandez bass, I just know the owner liked the modification and it wasn't necessary to scallop the body, but it dependes on the manufacturer, if the neck is lower, so it is necessary to scalop the body.
