In my experience, clamping down on the tapered portion of the string works fine.

(I don't do flats...)

I figured that should work fine with normal round wound strings. For flats, the Chromes worked fine, I’m using those without issue on a fretless.

@Passini It appears the saddle apex sits ~4.5 mm from the leading aspect of the tuner assembly, correct?

Edit: are there actually any install or operation instructions on-line? I'm having problems discerning how to set intonation.

Actually I don't have instruction online, but for intonation, you just need to loosen the screw that fix the barrel and move the whole barrel.

In my experience, yes. A ball-end hex wrench helps.

Also, this isn’t an adjustment that needs to happen very often.

I don’t remember having any unusual issues intonating the Nova bridge I have. No worse then the bridges with the blocks loose in the channels that need to be moved. Probably easier.

Yes but I can loosen the locking grub screws ( a la ABM) with the strings-to-pitch and manipulate the saddle block / intonation. As I understand it, if I were to loosen the Nova lock-down, the entire assembly would lurch forward.

No Riis, only the barrel will move, because there is a base under the barrel fixed to the body and the barrel will be fixed on the base.

That's what I meant: the entire barrel assembly (saddle, claw, micrometer tuner) will lurch forward. The base better not move 'cuz I'll have that rascal screwed-down to the face of the instrument! Appreciate the clarification!

I guess I’ve never tried to move one of those saddles with the strings at pitch. I’ve always lowered the pitch and adjusted things.

Same for me. Seems like asking for trouble to move the saddles with the strings at pitch.

I saw a prototype muted gold finish that may have been for an S. Martyn headless, hence the question. Very nice but not a thing wrong with "basic black".

I can see that working but not with existing conventional gold hardware (knobs). Knobs to match...nice touch.

Next stupid question: is there a recommended orientation for the headpiece or can it be flipped 180 degrees with impunity? The winding lengths may come into play.

Hi Riis, the headpieces I have in stock there are different sizes for the string holes, the next lot I will produce I keep the same size for the string holes. Take a look...

So if you rotate the headpiece the thickest string won't fit
