New Quilter bass amp!

So I guess if one feels bringing one of these is adding a bit of inconvenience and is a deal-breaker:

Yet, most of us will bring little stuff like this:

And all of it would fit in the little front pocket of mine or your bass gig bag. I guess I am a little dumb and old fashioned. I don't get it :(

Well, TBH I missed the part where anyone said it was a dealbreaker. Speaking for myself, I specifically said it WASN'T necessarily that.

What people were saying was that Quilter made what was, to them, a poor decision that resulted in a loss of utility and convenience.

True, most of us do bring little stuff like that--I sure do--but IMO that's not an argument for bringing yet more stuff, it's actually an argument against having to do so when it shouldn't be necessary. The pockets on my gig bag are stuffed enough already.

You've made that pretty clear. There are lots of small things that you could carry, that's not the point. The point is that the industry standard connection was removed. Imagine having an RCA jack for the instrument input. Sure, you could carry an RCA to 1/4" adapter...

:D

Hey Tom, sorry your cabs didn’t come with cables. We probably grabbed samples from the front. Normally all of our cabs come with double right angle speaker cables.

You guys know they make 1/4” TRS to XLR cables, right? You don’t have to have an adapter sticking out of your amp.

If we had put an XLR out on the back of the amp you would be complaining about a lack of accessibility when the amp was docked in a BassDock 10. We hear that it might not the connection you’re used to, but it works just the same, and we want our amp to integrate well with our cabs.

Orly?
:D

No, I wouldn't... because I don't use your cabs. And your cabs could've been designed to handle that situation. But they weren't.

:D Just like you've made it very clear time and again that this is now not the industry standard and others have and continue to say how Quilter has made, a poor decision that resulted in a loss of utility and convenience. :D

I think we all get it now :D

I’ve been using my BB800 with a MB Ninja 122 from small bar gigs to large stages and everything in between, perfect except for I would like to have that “Snap” tone option. Anyway to send mine in to have it integrated? :)

If a sound guy doesn’t have a direct box, 1/4” TRS to XLR cable, or can’t mic my cab he should be fired right after I tell him sorry for my non XLR out inconvenience!

It's funny when people can't see the other side of the horse they're beating.

Just tried out an 802 with several basses (my Aries Rian fretless 6, a new Smith 5, Cirrus 6 and new Sire 5). Sounded great... they all conveyed their signature sounds. If the 800 never existed I'd buy an 802. Great amp. Checked it out at Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center.

Tried it with a Genzler 112 sitting off the floor. Was able to dime the Depth control. All of the basses sounded best without tweaks so the EQ was moot, much like on my 800. Tons of headroom as usual and I was able to dial in pretty drastic tones from the basses... more than I could with the EQ.

The salesperson who brought the amp up for me was baffled as to the non-XLR situation.

Doesn't surprise me at all that the amp sounds great and has a bucketload of power. I would expect no less.

Still, nobody's perfect, and even great companies fall short occasionally. As they used to say in the ancient Mediterranean world, "Even Homer nods [off]."

I would've been surprised if it did perform differently.

I agree on the missteps. The connector choices (TRS on amp, 1/4" on cabs) are definitely head scratchers that seem like they could've easily avoided.
