My suggestion for you is a Tc Electronic BH250 head and a K212 cab. Great combination, light weight, portable size and sounds incredible.
If you want to try a combo, Tc Electronic BG250 1X15 sounds really good too but if you don't mind carrying the head in your gig bag pocket (yes, that small) you rather go with the first option.

I am looking for some ideas on a new rig.

I play a MIM Jazz V (love it) through an SWR Workingman's 12 and a Working Pro 10. I like the sound a lot, and volume wise it is adequate. I am playing jazz standards, reggae, and rock (think country rock) in small places.

I am trying to up my image a bit ....silk purse and a sow's ear and all that. The combo and cab are a mismatch. What I am looking for is a rig with a similar sound, maybe a bit more volume, and reasonably portable for a late 50's guy.

Like I say, I like the sound of my rig, and have used it for a while. I was looking a bit at the mark bass Jeff Berlin combo....thoughts on that or some other ideas?

Just picked up the Fender Rumble 500 combo and the 210 cabinet to go with it. Paid just under $800 and got a very loud, great sounding rig that weighs under 75 lbs. together. Very happy with it.

No seriously, the best advice is get out and play stuff, no-one here has your ear, and ultimately it's foolish to spend $1250 on what someone else's ear likes.

$1250 is a LOT to work with. Go out and play as many different rigs as possible then decide.

I'd check into the the Schroeder Bass Cabs. Some of the best and lightest on the market. And a good Class D head. Currently have a smoking set up with a Single 12 PL cabinet, and a Dual 12 Cabinet when needed; and either a Genz Shuttle 3 for practice or a Genz 6 for clubs. And needing to go larger venue with a Demeter Preamp and a Crown XLS1500 Power Amp. Totally versatile set up. Single 12" is 28 lbs, and Dual 12" (one in a corner fold) 38 lbs. Can't beat it.

If I were shopping for a solid state amp right now, I would buy one of the new Peavey MiniMEGA 1000s. $600. 1000W RMS. Built-in compressor, 4-band semi-parametric EQ, tuner out, Aux In, and some nice other features you may or may not use. And it's small and light.

1000W = never needing more power, ever, I think. At least, for me.

That plus a good 2x10, 2x12, or 4x10 seems like it would totally fill the OP's bill. I would probably go with a good 2x10, thus having the option to add a matching 2x10 later, if needed, and having really good flexibility.
