New Rush thread

fleabee, i feel the same way about the album. i've been pretty much listening to it exclusively since it came out...and if not, then listening to other rush albums (i forgot how much i love these guys!). i really think that this is one of their absolute best albums, certainly their best in their newest harder sounding era.

on first listen i knew i liked it, but knew it would have to grow on me since it is different from anything they've ever done in the past. the more i listened to it, the more i found that i really liked it. each tune grew on me and i don't think there is a bad song on the album. my favorites vary from day to day without one that can ever hold the top spot for too long. the hooks are great and the music is tight and the production is top notch. imo the album has a dark sound that reminds me of jacob's ladder (from perm waves). to me, this album is a combination of what is great about the newest rush mixed with classic rush. can't wait for the tour (fingers crossed for a full hemispheres this tour).

after more the 10 times listening, the album really got me. It seems to be as strong as ~counterparts~, but with some essential elements from ther late 70s production, and some really cool and fresh acoustic sound.
Far Cry, Armor and Sword, Workin them Angels, the Larger Bowl, Faithless and Bravest Face are my favorites
btw, the sound of precision bass, is on the power trio classic moment on faithless....it seems geddy soloed his neck pick-up on the solo section of the song. The dinos still turn on!

I really like Spindrift a lot. And Armor and Sword is probably next after that. It's difficult to choose a favorite with Rush....I really like the poetic lyricism in The Larger Bowl. Every song is great, really. Except, I could probably live without Workin' Them Angels; It's not bad, it's just not up to their usually very high standard.

Me 2, brother, his bass sounds like a precision on faithless (i told it before), this is very clear on the solo section....actually the album has an amazing recording and mixing quality....excellent work of the producer...
about ~workin the angels~ i did not liked it at first, but it really took me after some listening....is maybe the more different song in the album...is simple and commercial, but not the way pop songs are used to be...the chorus comes at 48s....and are 70% of the song, with some kind of small bridge in between...

well, I am not much of a rush fan, I liked their big hits like tom sawyer, etc.

But I have to say that i really enjoyed this album.....it may not be the best introduction for a new fan, but I still really like it....I am actually surprised....

I think it's great that Rush is still drawing in new fans even today. Of all the bands out there, Rush may be one of the most hard-working and worthy of attention. They are probably the only band which truly keeps the band relation....Rush would not survive without either Lee, Peart, or Lifeson. With all of the member replacing going on in so many bands these days, it's incredible to listen to guys who've been playing for 30+ years, and who obviously still love to work together. And that's just the tip of the iceberg; it says nothing about their music, just the kind of band they are.

I really like Workin' Them Angels...it has such a beautiful, graceful and glorious sound to it!

Listening to Snakes and Arrows also makes me appreciate Vapor Trails even more. They're both ridiculously good albums, and I'll be damned if Ceiling Unlimited isn't one of Rush's finest moments!

Count me in as another one who loves the album. Wonderful production, they really bounced back from the mastering/mixing problems on Vapor Trails and this might be the best sounding Rush album yet.

The album is very consistent, the first 5 songs really grabbed me upon first listen and the second half of the album has steadily grown on me. I love the throwbacks to sounds and chord patterns from older albums (particularly a lot of Lifeson's guitar tones, with the lush chorus, and you have to love the Hemispheres chord before the main riff in Far Cry), it's both fresh sounding but with familiar elements at the same time. The prominent acoustic guitar is also a nice touch.

I think one of the reasons these guys are musical legends is that all three have such a unique and developed style... often a band may have one or two such individuals but all three of these guys are innovators at what they do.

I haven't picked up the new album, but I'll probably get it soon. Who's going to see them this summer or already has seen them? I'm going June 20th and I can't freakin' wait!

Seeing them in Milwaukee and Minneapolis... can't remember the exact dates at the moment :p

It's pretty late in this leg of the tour though, they hit there and then do a couple stops in Canada before Europe.
