New Schecter Short-Scale Banshee bass

I play mostly blues and reggae. With the tone backed off a bit, it sits in the pocket really well. My Ibanez PJ is a little bright for me (active-only tone control; very touchy; going to be moved on).

I've always wanted a straight P bass, and this one suits me perfectly. It just feels good.

Comparing tone to other P basses isn't something I can do (no experience), so I can't give you any relevant comparisons.

I'm sold on short scale basses.

There are a lot of basses out there in the $700 range, but I think you'd be hard-pressed to do better.

A note on availability: When I bought mine last month, there was very little stock available. None of the big boys had any. zZounds and AMS each had 5 (one grey, one white and three blue). zZounds now has one white and 3 blue, unless they've sold one or more.

I still can't believe how well set-up mine was right out of the box (no 55-point check like Sweetwater). It came with a small plastic bag with 2 allen wrenches and a "Set up to play!" sticker on it, initialed by whoever did the setup. And it was!

I got a great deal on one of these on Reverb the other day and it showed up today (seller was on the other side of the state and UPS managed to not throw a monkey wrench into the process for once). If you are in the market for a mid-priced short scale P type bass with high end features and quality components you should probably check these out. Truss rod adjustment wheel, high mass bridge with string through option, 5 bolt neck with rounded heel and light but solid, smooth tuners all included. Punchy is the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of the pickup sound. I put my cheapest nylon strap on it and no it does not neck dive. Not sure of the exact weight but its very light, though not as light as my ss EBMM Stingray.

Does anybody know what the straight tool with the 2 knurled sections is for? Ive never seen one before.

Congrats on the bass. Looks sweet!
That straight tool is for the truss rod at the heel. I don't know why they also included the regular truss rod allen key too.
Mine came with 2 different sizes of allen wrenches. So, there IS a bit a variation between basses!

So, I just got my Banshee back after having La Bella flats (760F-MUS) installed. Ended up being top loaded instead of string thru the body. I may bring back to be re-strung. Almost ran out of silk on the E string so I may bring it back to be restrung.

I finally got the Labella MUS string thru installed on my Banshee and I'm liking this bass. I also have a Lakland HOBO Short Scale and the Banshee seems to have more punch. I like them both however I bought the Nordstrand Acinonyx Cat which will get here around Aug. Either way I may have to let one go someday. The Banshee sure is a very good short scale.
