I looks like it's finally happening, I woke up to these pictures on my Facebook.
There was also a new J bass tease..

What are we thinking? I'm pretty excited, I've been holding off on buying another V7 in the hopes that something fresh would come from them.

I'm glad the knob locations seemed to have changed from the pictures you originally posted. They were too close to the pickups imo.

These look much better

But since they're all prototypes, who knows what's really coming out..

Hmmmm.....

Feeling serious G.A.S. since I have heard of the new Sire P/J - Basses. Swamp Ash in white with all maple neck.... Yummi!!!

I'll give Thomann Germany a call next week, asking for a date for shipping - and if there is an idea what happenes in case of being a P-neck - lover.

I would have no problem, if there would be a factory made neck to swap later, maybe the bass is great with the J - neck, lets see - and then decide.

I think, I know why so many bassplayers recommendet Sire to use a Jazz Bass style neck.... The Sire company sold a shitload of the V7 - modell, stock with Jazz Bass style neck, and so the fans of Sire did recommend the neck they know and love already. There was not a single real Precision - guy interested in Sire - Basses, until they told us they are going to built a P or P/J - Bass. This was the moment, the brand came into focus of people that like the more chunky P-Bas - necks better - as I do.

I have some MusicMan -Basses, one StingRay 4 and two 5-bangers, one StingRay Classic 5, two Bongo 5, one BigAl 5, there is an original 1964 Precision Bass and more, and I have to say, that I prefer the Precision-, Ray- and Bongo-necks before the slimmer neck of the BigAl. But I love the look and the sound of the BigAl. So I am not saying "I can't play it because it is too slim", I like more flesh in my hands, but am able to play slimmer necks. And so are you. Does the slimmer / fatter neck change the sound of the bass? Lets see, nobody knows - until someone has the chance to check it out.

So, if the whole package is right, like sound and playability is OK, why not trying the slimmer neck? Unless there is an option to get a chunkier one later. OK, I would prefer having it stock with the fatter neck, but it comes out like I have to get me another neck lets see, if I can find a single body on EBay, making this my next project. As I sayd before, if I have to change the necks. Lets check it out first.

Wow, almost a full week with no posts here...not even the bashers :) everybody must be really busy...or losing interest.
Maybe Sire should put out some P7 sound samples, I still interested but without hear it...no deal.

It's not that I've lost interest, but I think I've found a bass that will fill my GAS for a while, and I think I got it at a great price if there's nothing wrong with it. I didn't really want to wait another two months to get a bass I might not like. I was also less than thrilled with their customer service responses.

Looks nice and I like the jazz neck pairing but the knob configuration is impractical. I wouldn't be able to deal with knobs all up in my grill.

This. My right hand usually stays around the neck pickup, which would result in me hitting that stacked knob all the time.

If you're referring to the pics in post one of the thread, the knob locations appear to have changed.

Picture comparison in this post.

I was, and that's better. Not perfect, but I'd give it a consideration at this point.

me too, I was wondering why they put it so much close. Even comment it on Sire's facebook P7 pages.
Then I saw this... Fender Strat. And realize that Sire wasn't that off with their 1st attempt ;)

Yeah, for the old pinkie volume swells trick. Never heard of anyone using that technique on bass, but I suppose it's possible.

And so it continues. What's the big deal? No 5 string pics. They look like the 4 but with the low B. Sound samples? It's the same preamp as the V7...so how much different can it be? I ordered my P7 5 in white the first day.

so how much different can it be?
That's really the question - how much difference does a P pickup really make? (Let's not get into that endless discussion here....) I'd really like to hear sound samples of a P7 against a V7 in both passive and active with the preamp flat. Yes, the preamp is going to work the same, but it's processing a different signal...

Exactly! That's why I ordered one. I want the option to get that P thump by rolling off the bridge pup. Sold.
