New Sire P Basses!

Meraning
I totally agree...these are good misses....my point was only towards losing P7 sales due to lack of sound reference, I really would love to hear that neck and bridge pup individually to see how they perform. Hopefully they will put some samples up.

I suspect we won't see any from Sire directly... once these hit the streets you'll see people posting clips that Sire will those use some of on its facebook page etc. Your source of clips will be owners, not Sire. Why they don't do their wn since they have no retailers to demo them fro people, I don't know. It would make sense. But if they just want to concentrate on making great basses and not concentrate on marketing, that's okay with me.

What I have a little harder time wrapping my head around is having these available for order, but they don't even have photos of the product (in the specific colors etc.) available. How much time/effort does it take to have a photographer photograph them? Or have they not even built, say, a red one yet?

There is at least one known retailer, I'm going to check my bookmarks to see if they have any P7s in now...

Edit: Checked, no updates, I'll shoot them an email asking if there's any news. ;)

I sent an email to Sire on Saturday, we'll see if I get a response. The pictures aren't a huge deal. Same color schemes as the Jazz basses, so all I have to do is picture that in a PJ. Don't get me wrong I'd still like to see, but it's not a deal breaker. The sound samples are what's stopping me from pre ordering.

I got a facebook message back from Sire. Less than enthused about their response. I asked if they had sound samples or pictures of the P7. Said that it was tough to spend money on a bass without seeing or hearing. Their response:

We'll leave the testing to our players Bob

A lot of our players did not even tried our basses when they preordered theirs.

And to our surprise, it made a name for itself within the bass community worldwide

I'm sure they'll get some user samples up as soon as they can, but yeah, this P7 rollout seems particularly awkwardly done.

It just makes absolutely no sense to expect anyone to buy the bass .. and another neck ... No sense at all.. a poor business decision.. You cannot convince me that the extra cost of providing a stock option with a P neck is greater than the lost sales of those who will just choose to not buy the bass at all..

Agree, they will certainly lose sales by not offering customers a choice of neck at the same price point.

Did you ever think they might have plans down the road to do a P neck? Maybe a straight P but active?

When the rumors of a P first surfaced (about a year or so ago, I think) that's what I was hoping for - a traditional P that was active. I already have an active PJ with a P-ish width neck - the Ibanez Talman TMB-100 - which sells for much less ($199) and sounds great. Looks like if you buy the Sire and pay extra for a P width neck you'd likely end up spending 3 times as much!

Has anyone heard what they'll be charging for the P neck? I wonder if they will sell them separately, to people who haven't bought a the PJ model. If so, I'd be tempted to buy one and put it on my V7. Obviously I like chunky necks.

Also interesting to note that the Swamp Ash bodies are getting a black pickguard more inline with the V7 vintage, not the regular V7s which have the Ivory Pearl. The Alder bodies are all getting the tort guard.

I'm not sure where you see this. The pics on their website show the Swamp Ash with white pearl guard and blocks.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page, under the body section of the specs:
"Pickgaurd : Black(Swamp Ash) / Tortoise(Alder)"

Also the first part of the description says the photos are just prototypes and may not be true to the actual product.

They also spell pickguard wrong...so who knows.
lol I just noticed that

I've noticed that some of their grammar isn't the best on the website and social media... but I guess the basses outweigh all of that.

I personally hope it's the Ivory Pearl, I liked it. Though if it's just standard black, that may look cool too. Or maybe I'd get a custom black pearl guard from WD.

I'm not sure how the black guard will look with the pearl inlays. I would prefer a white pearl guard myself.

So I'm curious, who's taken the plunge and ordered one sight unseen? What 4 strings or 5? What color combination?

I'm very very close to pulling the trigger on a 5 string white blonde.

I did! I've wanted a traditional looking 4 string PJ in 3TB, with a Jazz neck and blocks for as long as I can remember. For me, this bass is the absolute perfect package, and the price is unbeatable for what I am getting. I can't imagine this sounding that drastically different from some of my favorite PJ pickups, so I was willing to just go for it. Sire hasn't really disappointed yet, so I think we are all in good hands...

P7 with ash bodies will come in 3 colors : White Blonde, Natural and Tobacco Sunbusrt, and with a black pickguard
P7 with alder bodies will come in 3 colors : Antique White, Black and Tobacco Sunbusrt, and with a tortoise pickguard
At least it's what I've found in the descriptions on the Thomann website (no pictures yet).
