Just got the semi-local dealer to order this baby for me (Squier VM Precision PJ sunburst):
Invalid Link Removed

They had it in stock a couple of weeks ago, but sold out. I cross my fingers and hope the new sample is as good as the one they used to have on display.

BTW: Anyone tried to switch to flats on this or similar Squier P-basses?

I put LaBella flats on the amber/maple VM Precision I got recently. Sounds great.

I tried to order one yesterday from Sweetwater, but they are out of stock, as well. I'm not going to look elsewhere exactly because of the concern over the quality. I want to make sure I get a good one.

I've flats on all my Precisions. Works well (not a big surprise eh!)

Can anyone else with a VM Jag V check their pole alignment on the P?
Mine seems to be very off centre and I'm trying to determine if it's the bridge, or the pickup.

As I stated in your thread, I believe that its the way the pickguard is routed, especially since your strings seems aligned to the poles of the Jazz pickup, I would rule the bridge out from being the culprit

Yeah, I did a mockup in Paint.net a few minutes after my post and it looks like a routing issue. I'm contacting my dealer to get either a replacement guard or bass.

For now, I've blacked out the poles with non-conductive tape.

Just got a notice from Sweetwater that the Olympic White Squier VM Jazz V is in stock. They have four of them in stock. They range in weight from 10.5 - 11 lbs.

I'd love to get one but I'm too weight conscious. I busted my A-C joint a couple times and my neck is affected as well.

Look great though!!!

Bummer. Thats the main reason I got rid of my VMJ5. Played and sounded great but was heavy.

My VMP5 is a hair over 9 lbs and I cannot belive how great it plays and sounds totaly stock.

True. But if the bass was a player that may not matter. Or I suppose it could be painted.

Considering the price, matching woods is not an issue, IMO. I have the amber VM P, and the woodmatching is not the best, one side is slightly darker, and the grain doesn't matchup as good as it could have.
I don't really give a damn. I bought it for $280, and it's one of the best playing, and best sounding basses I've ever had. I also think it happens to look awesome (You can see some flamed grain in certain spots under the right lighting conditions)despite the not so perfect matching.
It's really a non issue for me, especially for what I paid for it and it affects the sound and playability not one bit. AAMOF, it's a benefit as I look it ,as it makes my bass a true individual, and it helps making it "MY" bass.

To the contrary, my VM jazz...(not the new stuff in this thread) is a 2 piece body that matches incredibly well. It also weighs 11.4 lbs!
