0kay, I couldn't stand it any longer. I ordered the 7lb VM Fretless Precision from Sweetwater.

It's gorgeous, and I couldn't say no to the weight. Got threaded saddles and some Chrome ultralight flats on the way.

The link died, so here's a pic.

I'm digging the fretless P-Bass too.
Wish they keep it unlined like the original 1979 production bass.

My Jag 5 arrived today! Used it at my jam. I'll be doing a review tomorrow evening. :D

I'm picking mine up this morning. I really hope it meets my expectations, if not I'll be leaving it behind.

I'm interested in reading your review guys

I jammed for the second time with mine yesterday but I've done a little mod since the last one: I removed the active preamp.

I can take a picture of it if people are interested, but I can tell for sure that I suffered a little loss in output and overall bass from the intrument, but nothing too bad, I compensated with my amps and still got a solid sound. Seriously, its a killer instrument for the price!

Here are a few quick photos that I took of my new Jaguar 5 which I picked up this morning.

Overall, I'm quite happy with the tone and versatility of it. It needs a better set of strings so I'll install a set of Fender 8250 M5's on it tonight. Need some more playing time with it before I can make any further comments, but for the money it appears to be a bargain. For me it's a backup bass to my Big Al 5-H, so it won't see the playing time that the BA5 gets.

Sounds like only negatives from removing the pre. What's the upside ?

IMO, you don't even need to remove the bass boost. If you roll it all the way off, it's the same tone as I get from my passive P/J. I'm going install an active/passive bypass switch, instead of installing the Spector TonePump. I'll save that for another project, instead.

1: No more battery!
2: One less knob, a personnal plus since I thought that the one closest to the string was too close for my playing style (aka playing with a pick)
3: Coming from the guitar realm, I'll say without a shame that I'm a huge fan of full passive circuit. I don't hate active, but I prefer passive stuff
4: I'm using a bi-amping setup and I use one of those amp as a mid boost and I cut most of the bass frequencies, therefore I didn't really liked the idea of the bass boost

I'm keeping the circuit in case I change my mind, but I'm still going to a Master Vol/Blend/Master tone knob setup in a near future

Edit:

I've done that in my Ibby bass, removed the battery and was using it as a killswitch as the active signal absolutely needed a battery to work lol

Beside that, I've pretty much listed the reasons of my move. Also, I love to mess with electronic :D
