New SUV !!!!!!!

I have to get in on this too. I also have a truckapotamus. Mine is a 97 Expedition. We called it the luxury bus for a while after I got it. I hate the mileage. But A) I need the hauling space. and B) I need the headroom. I sit much taller than I stand. I am not tall. I'm only 5'11" , but I sit taller than my friend who is 6'6". All my height is upper body, so in my Expedition I still look at the road over the rear view mirror. Anything more than one car-length out in front of me is seen through the tinted part of the windshield.

Another gripe is why do the makers of automobiles want me to hit my legs on the bottom of the steering wheel of every car, truck, bus, and ambulance I ever get into?

But darned near as much headroom as your Element, and more legroom in the back seat.

I was so impressed with the space in the xB, that I almost bought one.

I know the Element is even roomier up front and behind the back seat.

Darned thing is too low to the ground for me, and when I sat in the driver's seat, I felt just as cramped as I did in my old Civic. I didn't sit in the back seats (I was too amused by how small it was), but the back seats of my Element are pretty comfy to me.

Congrats, you now qualify to be berated by the SUV haters lead by our very own Bad Brains!

Now you have a REAL challenge though...mod the Z71 to run 11s!

An 11 sec tahoe! now that would be something!!! I think one of the fastest streetable 4x4 tahoes is running about 14ish and thats with about 15k in mods!!!!! I'd be happy to get mine to go 0-60< 7sec.

A freind of mine has a ford f250 diesel in the 12s......what an awsome truck!

Hey Gard, I actually like the Honda element, think it looks real cool (as I think the guys at land rover agree cause the new LR3 looks alot like the element from the profile)
I do need a good 4x4 as I'm am always renting one every summer I go to the outer banks N.C. so the tahoe z71 swayed me. I do like getting off road and the tahoe is fairly capable!

As for the Scion I sat in one and it just dosent have the shoulder and hip room for me (I'm the size of a defensive tackle) Although very very mod freindly and also very cool. I'd be afraid with the Scion that I would get into and engine swap (supra twin turbo baby!) coil overs, new breaks, yada yada and wind up spending twice the value of it in mods :D

Pics comming!

Congrats on the Tahoe.

my beloved Evo VIII that I had modded to 400bhp and was deep in the 11's in my 1/4 mile runs, and ready to break into the 10's.

Pics??

My 79 Blazer runs 16.0@85mph in the 1/4, with a 2.0 second 60' time. Thats with 44" Super Swampers.
Imagine what it would run if I had normal size tires on it.

I'm an environmentalist, and I drive two cars: a Ford Escort and Explorer. This is because I am 17 and too poor to buy my own car. My family owns these two cars, and I use whichever one is not being used at the moment. It's funny because at my ultra-liberal high school, people say to me, "you are bad. You are killing the Earth." (They don't actually say that, I'm just giving you a general idea.) And I will totally agree with them.

So, as Ali-G would say, big-up-yourself. You's is no worse than me's. I is random-jibberish interjector.

In which case I would respond

"You are stupid. You are killing my brain."

Not stupid for caring about the earth, mind you, but stupid for trying to tell me how to live my life.

that international may be something, but this suv has a crane option

http://www.unimogtrucks.com/ the govenator has 3 of these on his ranches.

i own a honda crv, so technically i have an suv. at 5'10", its big enough, but not much extra leg room. over 6 foot, and its prolly not for you.

personally, i think suvs are no worse than any other v8 or high performance v6 vehicles. they are killing the environment (low gas mileage, high use, increasing popularity), making the roads slightly more dangerous (bigger, faster, and a lot of new big suv drivers are not very experienced with bigger vehicles), and causing traffic and parking crowding to increase (again bigger). i could say the same for f150's, chevy vans, and dodge stealths.

i think we ought to be taxed (vehicle registration) per cubic centimeter / pollution index / weight. its the only way we are going to be able to afford the road repair, liability, and r&d on pollution abatement/future biodomes.

then drive whatever you want.

What's your school? I may have to pay a visit with my 1996 GMC Yukon in green, aka Mean Green

I wanna see this Evo.

I used to kinda hate SUV's, then I drove around a Toyota 4-runner SR5 for a night... It was tight. It was nice and powerful, and didn't handle like a bus. It was on par with something like an Expedition. I loved driving it, and my DD is a 94 protege.

Alas my Evo has been sold :crying: I just hope the guy who bought it doesn't blow it up! Talking about a new turbo blah blah..... It was as modded as I was willing to take it with a very conservative tune! Some tuners have got 9 sec evos but thats all they do is race them on the track 1/4 mile at a time.

As for all the environment critics that get up on a soap box: I think the environment needs to be conservered and our natural resources preserved, but...... I ask them some questions:

Do you eat any type of meat? It takes alot of energy to raise and bring "meat" to market. You would use less gas to drive a mile in your SUV then the energy required to get you the meat calories to supply the energy for you to walk a mile! So get out your crossbows boys and girls and hunt for dinner.

Do you turn on the light switch?
Do you go to the fridge for a cold beverage?
Do you like the fluff cylcle on your dryer?
Do you like chatting on the net, going to the movies, shopping at the mall, swimming in a heated pool, going to a ball game, concert, watching mtv?????????????????????

All this stuff takes an awful lot of energy!!!! So unless you are willing to give up all this, don't look at me with Bambi killer eyes for driving an suv.

OK, Ted Nuggent mode off ;)

Oh yeah.... my other commuter is a Infiniti g20 (nissan sentra) ~25-30 mpg :D

6'2", 250 here.

Found the killer compromise between comfort, gear haulin' room, and good gas mileage.

Laugh all you want, but drive it and you'll see the light: Honda Element

No, it's not fast, it's not sexy, but it's got more headroom than any other vehicle I've ever been in (my mom has an '04 Tahoe, it's not even CLOSE for interior room), and it does the job.

It's not slow either;). We've had ours for a while now and couldn't be happier. Feels huge inside, parks small. I actually like that it has seating for four adults... and no more. I've hauled a pretty amazing amount of stuff in this. Haven't babied it but it still looks like new.

The Scion xB is on a different scale IMO.

as a matter of fact...

-i dont eat meat (or use any other animal product)
-i buy mostly californian, and oregon organic foods (less "to market" distance, less chemicals)
{tangent: it takes more farmland, and produces more waste to raise livestock than crops for feeding people}
-flatulance is far less detrimental to the environment than vehicle emissions.
-dont use the fluff cycle, or a dishwasher or garage door opener.
- i ride my bike, or take public transportation, whenever poss.
-and the dire need for better energy sources is the exact reason i am an engineering major.

oh, and ted nugent is a self-righteous, closed minded, right wing aXXXXXX. :spit:

:D

im not attacking you personally, fb, or the fact you bought a suv, nor do i want this to degrade to a talkshow. however i felt i had to address your statements. just because we cant be perfect environmentalist, doesnt mean that we cant still try to do what we can. not everyone who is buying an suv is doing so because they need to. unfortunately, there WILL be a price paid for taxing the eco system . NOW or LATER.

oh, and i dig the element too. cant wait for a hybrid model.
