New TC Elec. BH550 & 800

Power issue aside. I will say the thing that bums me out about the implementation is that only one Tone Print can be active at a time. If both could be on (like the RH450 allows both spectracomp and tube drive simultaneously) then in my view the BH550 fixes the issues with the RH450 like crappy knobs and a heavy chassis. Tone obviously TBD.

Watts are meaningless other than your power bill.

I played and gigged the BH250 head and the BG250 combo. Both were as loud or louder than my Markbass "500" watt head.

Should they call something 500 watts that isn't? No but keep it real.
I am semi-interested in the BH550 and would like to hear constructive demos, reviews from actual users or at least people who have physically tried it.

Here is a link to the BH250 head- to my ear at least my bass sounds GREAT through it.

RH heads only it appears. No reason these shouldn't put out the advertised power.

I believe you summed it up nicely. Hopefully the new BH heads will test well on the bench. IMO these amps have great potential IF they bench well. I'm looking forward to taking one for a test drive if they meet my expectations.

And seriously dude, I can't believe what a bully you are being considering according to the website link in your profile, you've only played 50-100 gigs and don't play in a band...

I played 50-100 gigs in the first two years of playing including an interstate tour when I was 19-20 (I'm now 41) have played over 1500+ shows, been recorded in real studios for albums that have been released on proper labels, been played on the radio and played live on the radio more than a few times, and when I did some quick math, played more gigs in one year than you have all together... But I'm not surprised, attitude goes a long way for repeat gigs...

Give us working musos a break when we have something to offer in an open forum that is supposed to be a mature place for intelligent discussion. You might learn something.

It's overkill. It's in every single thread for 3 years. It's exhausting. It's frustrating and quite frankly the people who own and use these amps are sick of it. We are all sick of it. I'm glad you're so awesome. I've been working and supporting a family. You want to get personal with me then bring it but I can guarantee you that I've done more good for more people in my life than you can even dream of.

If you were the first person to complain about the wattage then it would be worth listening to. At this point it's just plain crappy.

And I'm sure Nathan East, Roscoe Beck and John Paul Jones would love to hear from someone as experienced as you. You should consider emailing them your opinions on TC Electronic. I'm sure they'd be fascinated.

My question is why you guys always have to have the last word on this subject?

About this power rating issue: It is something that is known. For some this is a deal breaker, for others it is not.

Some people on talkbass are new to talkbass & some people cannot try a product before they buy it.
Both of those groups of people are checking threads like this to find out if a product (or company that builds products) might work for them.
Some people only care if a head puts out enough volume for them to use with their other equipment.
Some people want to know if a product is rated in a reasonable way by the manufacturer.
If TCE had said this is a 240 Watt amp that sounds like a 450 Watt amp that would have been more honest, that's up to the company's marketing dept to decide how to advertise it, but IMO, prospective buyers should have as much knowledge available to them as possible to help make an informed decision: hence IMO, it is a good thing for people to raise these issues on talkbass &/or wherever else they want to.

As far as I can tell from a google search there are at least 60 threads on tc electronic wattage. I think the wattage crowd pretty much has it covered.

Like someone stated, TCE brought this on themselves.
IMO, for every thread on a TCE product, there should be at least one posting on their past indiscretions.
Per talkbass rules, expressing your opinion is a respectful way is still allowed.
I'm not a TCE hater; if the BH800 turns out to be powered as rated, demonstrates reliability for a couple of years, & has the type of tone I like, I might eventually be in the market for one.
You can post whatever you like & so can I.
Get over it or don't - I don't care... :)
