Right. The "tight" switch cuts low end from the drive side and makes it a bit grindier, which I like. Low and high below 9:00, mid around 3:00, tight engaged, drive around 12:00 or higher, gives a sweet, midrangey grind that blends perfectly with the deep channel. That's my go-to sound on the two Geddy models I've owned thus far. It's not necessarily Geddy-ish, but I like it.

Alright, I’m back from my band practice and while the DI-2112 is a great preamp, I’ll return it. Let me explain. This is a great preamp, with loads of options, and it sounded good. BUT, did it sound better than my BDDI V2, in my band context? Not necessarily. I kept switching between the two, and I quite enjoyed the BDDI V2 better.

I just feel like home on the BDDI. I know how to use it, how to get the best out of it in my band setting. And as I said, while the DI-2112 did sound good too, I found the BDDI more straightforward, fuller, and fitter to my needs.

So well done Tech 21, this is a beast of a preamp but a bit overkill for me, as I’m a very happy camper with your classic BDDI V2. I’m staying faithful to the brand :) !

I run the LA Studio compressor and a parametric EQ on the top branch panned right and the simple EQ and the Zeroamp on the bottom branch panned left and adjust the blend back to taste which is basically what the 2112 does anyway. I also add a Send before anything else to get a dry tone.

The whole thing is amazing, but I agree, there’s magic in the drive channel. I’ve been playing it through a pair of powered EV EKX 15P’s at home here, and it’s tone heaven.

I had a YYZ that I loved, but sold it because I had to have an MBD1. Well, the MBD1 got traded in towards the 2112.

Tech 21 hit it out of the park with both the YYZ, and this one.

I would still love to see a Geddy Fly Rig. :) @tech21nyc do you think you could get Geddy to cave on one more model unit? :)

Actually that’s what I was thinking @BrentSimons was meaning, I missed that he said Flyrig. The Deluxe is more along the lines of what I’d want too I think, but a Geddy FlyRig would check the boxes for me too.

However, I’m still super happy with what the DI-2112 is doing. Can’t wait to use it live in a couple weeks.

Yes I'm envisioning a GedRig combining some of the features of the Steve Harris and Dug pedal. Tuner, ability to switch between two channels (or presets) headphone out and aux in. That would be awesome!

I'm very happy to announce that I found a DI-2112 under the tree this morning. I did get to play around with it and I really dig how it sounded with my Precisions.

I can't wait to see how it sound with my Stingrays and how much fun running two combos will be.

I've been looking at these Ged pedals every time they come out. But I've been so happy with my MBD1, I just haven't been curious enough to get one. But then that 2112 dropped and I was like, man, I REALLY wanna try that now.....but then I got into the whole modeler thing, priorities changed, and in the end, I'm still VERY please and happy with my MBD1.......now having said all that, why do you prefer the 2112 over the MBD??? Would it be as simple as the added DI?? I think I may get the 2112 just to see what all the fuss is about. I know it's a great pedal regardless. But I think it may be time I try one myself...

I *really* liked the MBD1. It’s an insanely great sounding and very versatile drive pedal, as you very well know. But for my tastes, in the end, the YYZ/2112 sound is more “my” thing. So when I needed a DI for my IEM/direct board, the 2112 ended up being perfect for me. I’ve got it set quite clean, with just a touch of drive when I dig in, and it sounds amazing through a pair of powered EV’s.

So one reason was for the DI, for sure. The second was, I just really love how they sound. The EQ on the drive side, and being able to blend in the deep side, makes it so easy for me to get the sound I’ve got in my head.

But I’ll probably end up getting an MBD2 in the near future, because I’m sure I’ll miss “that” sound also.
