New Tech 21 Geddy Lee DI-2112

It's not really a big deal the GED-2112 has the switch in the battery compartment. It's a simple switch and easier than the rack mount that you have to open. Least the 2112 has the tight switch too.

I guess they should have added that extra button to combine outputs, made it a red button and called it "We Have Assumed Control". ;)

Quick question about the 2112 as compared the the YYZ (which I use and gig with using a passive P-Bass). I like the relative simplicity of the YYZ too.

I have a MM Sterling USA 5 active 5-string that the YYZ changed the sound too much (didn't sound like a MM bass to me and I want to keep the tone of the MM). The YYZ sounds great on my passive P-Bass.

Does the 2112s clean blend on the drive channel, truly blend in the un-effected original bass signal (which should help retain some of the original tone). And does the clean blend work well when using a single output (single the jumper switch for the deep channel)?

The GED-2112 has internal jumpers to combine the outputs or you can jump the channels. The "DI-2112" has the switch to combine outputs. On the latest rev there is a Drive/Mix output. That gives you both channels combined at the 1/4" Drive output. The internal switch combines the channels for the XLR only.

The Blend on the DI-2112 and GED-2112 will go from 100% un-effected to 100% SansAmp signal. You will get your un-effected signal when you back off the Blend. The EQ is still active though. You can also run the pedal at 18 volts if desired for more headroom.

What are the serials/production dates for the newest revision?

I got the YYZ and liked it so much that I figured the 2112 would be even better. It is.Like you I dug the simplicity of the YYZ and it does sound great.Once I got the hang of the 2112 I haven't taken the Geddal out of its tin.I'll probably sell it.

Thanks, Tech21 for the explanation. I hadn't been able to find a good demo of the clean blend on the drive channel; it seems like what I'm looking for. I prefer the Para Driver V2 for my Music Man Sterling 5 due the the clean blend. So, I think I'll get a 2112 in the near future.

Rocknroller4 - The YYZ is not thin sounding at all, but I find I prefer how it sounds with passive basses. It's really versitale; it does a great cleanish sound (think MoTown) that most don't talk about; it has a great drive tone as well. The YYZ deep channel is really good too it does result in a good ballance and helps find the tone your looking for; also great for when playing different rooms and less than new strings; some rooms require more or less bass signal and takes a second to find the tone you like.

Why would you want the DI-2112 then?

Wow

My DI 2112 just arrived and it has the mix / drive out

As I live in Brazil and bought it from a local seller I believe that "newest revision" was launched some time ago.

Still can't decide which one to get. I use a Bass Block 800 so I guess running it through the XLR In bypasses the preamp and gives me more EQ options. I thought about the Bass Block 802 but bypassing that seems pointless because it has more EQ controls. So if I got the YYZ with the 802 could I run it after my bass into the Bass Block? Someone said it's a line in the YYZ and 2112 pedal so you have to use effects loop? Confusing as all hell.

So to make it clear..

Bass Block 800 + GED-2112 (DI) into the XLR In

or

Bass Block 802 + YYZ Pedal into the XLR In or use instrument cable from the bass to YYZ into the amp?

Just trying to figure out what would give me the best sound. The issue with the Bass Block 800 is the limited EQ options but at least it has an XLR Out but then again so does the GED-2112.

I'm leaning more towards the YYZ because at least I can foot switch it off and use the Bass Block 802's eq if I wanted to but as someone mentioned, you're not supposed to plug the YYZ pedal after your bass into the amp. It has to be a line in? Does that make sense? I don't want a bunch of cables running from the effects loop out and in.

Our suggestion is to buy both. :)

The YYZ is designed for users that want the GED "flavor" to use as a stompbox with an amp they are already happy with. The DI-2112 is an amp/desk top dedicated preamp. The DI-2112 has more tonal options. It's not mean to be used as a stombox. The YYZ would most likely work best into the front end of the Bass Block 800.

Rocknroller 4 - Make it simple - try the YYZ pedal first; run it like this: bass, YYZ, into the amp insturment input. The bass block seems to have an XLR line out that you could send to the PA/mixing board if your on a live gig.

- That's how I've been running my tone for a long time, only difference is I use a DI pedal to split my signal after the YYZ - one output goes to the amp the other from the DI to the PA (my amp is basicaly my monitor on stage). The amp gets my YYZ and so does the PA.

As this setup would indicate, the YYZ also sounds great ampless. No amp or speaker sim required.

Cool, thank you for all the awesome products Tech 21 puts out. Hopefully we'll see some upgraded Geddy pedals maybe in different color schemes.

The Bass Block 802 doesn't have an XLR out but you can buy the 1/4 to XLR. I might just buy a separate DI box anyways for my pedalboard.
