New Tech 21 Geddy Lee DI-2112

Finally, after months of back & forth along with a bunch of research I placed my order for the Ged DI-2112 though Sweetwater.
With considerations to the Boss GT100 Core, Mesa Subway DI, Tone Hammer, (various others), my decision came down to how I intend to use the device and the fact that I hate "programing setups." It will be used in lieu of an amp on our Sunday morning amp-less stage and occasionally at home as the preamp to my practice amp.
Choosing between the DI-2112 and the YYZ pedal was pretty easy considering the above. I like that the 2112 provides more options than the straight forward Geddy-tone, as I don't own a Jazz bass. That said, it will be interesting to see how it interacts with my Music Man basses, P-bass, and flat/round wound strings. I do have a G&L L2K that absolutely nails the vintage Fender tones, so when the urge arrises to play along with the Signals album, I'm good!

I just ordered the DI-2112 and I'm not sure which version I will get yet. Is there a way to control the mix/drive out? Is it the internal switch for both the XLR and 1/4 inch?

The GED-2112 has internal jumpers to combine the outputs or you can jump the channels. The "DI-2112" has the switch to combine outputs. On the latest rev there is a Drive/Mix output. That gives you both channels combined at the 1/4" Drive output. The internal switch combines the channels for the XLR only."
Yes I read that, but I'm not sure I get it... is there a switch on the outside that combines the Drive/Mix 1/4 inch? Or is it always both channels combined at that output? I might be too tired to get it...
The switch is behind the battery slot once you open the battery cover. It's directly below the empty spot to the right of the tight button. Hitting that combines them for the XLR output. Using the 1/4 Mix/Drive is always combined.

Thinking of getting the DI-2112 or the HX Stomp. I've read through the thread and I know someone mentioned that they were able dial in similar tones to the 2112 in their Stomp. Has anyone else had experience? Was it easy to get a similar sound, or did it require a lot of work?
I mainly just record and jam at home most of the time. I like the extra versatility of the Stomp, but the tone of the 2112 sounds amazing from what I've heard and read.
I also have a Mesa Subway plus pre-amp and I'd be interested to stack it with the 2112 just to see what happens. Might probably be total overkill but no harm in trying and experimenting.

The DI-2112 was not designed as a stompbox. It's an amp/desktop preamp that is designed to be your amp. If you want a stompbox, you should consider our YYZ pedal. That will get you the Geddy "flavor" in a stompbox format.
Quick question about its design Though. Why was the combine outputs made a hidden switch?
I know, in fact I just sold my YYZ pedal in favor of the DI. But there was talk in here about the ability to move a jumper to make the mute switch a bypass.
I believe the jumper is from the Rackmount Geddy GED-2112, and not the desktop preamp Di-2112. I was confused there too, as the names are really similar. The Di-2112 can only combine the channels as a built in mod, not bypass. But if i'm wrong there, would love to know how to bypass the DI-2112.
Because it's a signature unit it is setup for the way Geddy uses it but we realized that many players would want to combine the outputs for single channel use. That was just on the first run batch of that unit. All units since have a mixed output when using the Drive 1/4" output only as well as the internal switch.
The DI-2112 wasn't designed to be a pedal. It's a more portable version of the GED-2112 rackmount unit. If you just want a stompbox type of pedal the YYZ would be the better choice.
When you plug into the 1/4" Drive output only, the channels are mixed. If you then plug into the 1/4" Deep output the channels are separated. If you need a mixed output for the XLR outputs you need to engage the switch located in the battery compartment.
