New Tech 21 Geddy Lee DI-2112

I just got one of these to try. It's a pretty neat little box. But I agree that the design team seems to be focusing on those who are not using amps. Still, I like this little gadget. Still working out how to tweak it for my style, lots of options available, it's replacing my old Sansamp Bass Driver DI. The lack of a footswitch has not been a problem for me thus far as I never used my Bass Driver as a stomp box anyway, and the lack of an on/off switch is mitigated by having it plugged in to my power conditioner along with my amps. Since I happen to have two amps and cabinets I'm able to bi-amp with it, however there is an internal switch that can be accessed through one of the battery covers that will combine the "deep" channel with the "drive" channel so you can run it through one amp/cab. (Why they had a switch but no external button is bizarre). Anyway, this box performs, and I really like the tones I'm able to get out of it.

If you plan to keep the pedal, you could do the internal bypass mod on the rack mount. then you could bypass the rack mount and switch on the pedal for two different tones.

Great GED products here and I’m already all-in on Tech21 gear ... dream would be to have full version functionality with saved presets (I have a PSA-1) and bypass (act like a pedal) but was curious what this post meant about a bypass mod. I know, curiosity killed the cat but I must ask. Thanks.

The switch on the front of the rackmount mutes the 2112 by default. But an internal jumper can be set to make it bypass the unit instead of muting it.

By moving a jumper, it changes the mute button to a bypass button.

Thanks for the responses, jacoby75 and dStar. That is helpful knowing about the bypass jumper (a well kept secret). I have a PSA1 which I love and am thinking about whether I can put the GED2112 in front of the PSA and give myself complete optionality of sound (using the bypass button you noted) ... and pedals into an effect return somewhere. Preference has been the GED rack version because of the greater variability it offers over the YYZ pedal ... but if this is more trouble than it’s worth can always just throw the pedal version on the board. Thoughts on this being a good or bad idea? Thanks in advance.

Got my new 2112-DI up and running into my AI at home, sounds amazing. Had to resort some power and get 18V to it. I started with the Geddy suggested setting and it was good, but I am loving the JPJ setting with my jazz bass. Well I started there and I tweaked it a little, but those suggestions are helpful.

I'm very happy to announce that I found a DI-2112 under the tree this morning. I did get to play around with it and I really dig how it sounded with my Precisions.

I can't wait to see how it sound with my Stingrays and how much fun running two combos will be.
So it's been a few months now... whatcha think?

I'm trying to decide between the 2112 and the new Boss GT1000 Core. In general I'm a set-and-forget kind of guy (i.e. the 2112), but the possibilities the GT unit offers are quite enticing despite the programing fuss.

My Stingray runs at 18v... the 2112 is 18v... seems like a nice match...

Anyway, would like to hear your thoughts~

I love it. My bandmates love it. My neighbors probably hate it, but I love it. Right now I'm using the deep channel to drive my rig at practice and once my 2 x 12 cab arrives, I'll be able to use both channels into separate heads.

Here's a vid of it in action, driving a 1 x 15 and 1 x 10 combo with my Stingray

I love this pedal but the fatal flaw I think is the lack of a bypass switch. Wonder why that wasn't included with so much pedal real estate available? When I want to play with modulation, reverb, or delay I'd love to be able to switch off the pre and have a cleaned up tone. Has anyone created a useful work-around? I could add a loop bypass pedal right, with the 2112 in a loop and the rest of my board in another?

I just received a DI-2112 last week ... as per my above comments have been grappling with how to integrate and bypass with other pedals. My work around (still playing to find the best configuration) is with a Boss LS-2 pedal ... your signal chain IN ... the 2112 is on its own line loop (there are two) and out to whatever is next. The LS-2 offers many different types of input-output settings ... I will play with having the 2112 go direct into the power amp’s effects return than join the rest of the signal chain. Work in progress.

This is all wrong imo. You're playing with the wrong hands, or the video is mirrored or something. Tough to look at. :-)

JK, sounds great man. Such a great bass song and song in general.

I used a A/B switch with the bass driver di.
I use the di-2112 for dirty cutting tones and if I want a cleaner tone, I switch to the bass driver DI.
This works for me
