New Tech 21 VT Bass 300 Head!

The Non-Talkbass reality of what I see day in and day out at gigs, is alot of guys using regular "heavy" bass amps. Not everyone is as picky and whiny about their gear.

Some times this little Talkbass microcosm tends to over amplify (pun intended) perceived "problems" that aren't even there.

The average GK head weighs about that much, and tons upon tons of bass players use those every day.

Also - who cares about speakons if the thing only puts out 300 watts?

And all this criticism before anyone has even played one.

300 watts is plenty for the average club gigger - and it has two channels of switchable baddass VT Bass tone - making it very versatile without needing to bring any pedals.

The price, IMO, will be the real deciding factor on perceived value here.

I've tried a bunch of the micro's and just can't get into them.

I love my Landmark300. It doesn't look like you can combine ch1 and ch2 in the VT head like you can with the Landmark.

Same here w/ my LMIII.

The LMIII gets loud in its own right... but when paired with the VT... hot d4mn is it loud!

I think you can combine the channels with the footswitch:

"Included footswitch to further expand the amp's capabilities. In addition to switching channels, you can engage both channels simultaneously via the Mix switch, and silently tune your guitar via the Mute switch"

included footswitch. that's what i like to hear. none of this nickel and diming people over it like some companies i won't mention.

I like it. If the price is right, I'll probably bite. I don't mind that it isn't a micro since it's no heavyweight. That footswitch is where it is at (although it looks like it's pretty vital to plug it in). You can mix channels, and there is a tuner mute. That's awesome.

Cool!!! I missed that part!! The footswitch and combining channels is what really makes my Landmark sing.

I bought my head used and ordered the footswitch direct from Tech21. The switch was about $100 US as I recall. Gad it's included with the VT head!

And aside from the weight and price issues, the new Invalid Link Removed lacks a headphone out & stereo aux. in to accommodate home practice/recording/use by bassists who live in apartments surrounded by neighbours.

It seems that the only Tech 21 product which sports a headphone out (and interestingly, a mono effects send with stereo returns) is the Invalid Link Removed (according to its [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]) Invalid Link Removed USD

there are a lot of weird issues being addressed here. my last combo weighed well over 100 pounds. i dealt with it. 20 is nothing. speakon? who cares. 300 watts is plenty. no headphone? i dont remember the last time i used that on anything

mix and mute controls are a nice touch. for a decent price, id bite on this.

but there are a couple features id like to see added, which would clearly cost a lot more, and id be ok with that. id like to see a graphic EQ. i just need that in an amp. im picky. id also like to see a built in RBI that could be cascaded into a channel for the classic sansamp -> svt classic sound.

and of course a tube power amp would push me over the edge.

add all that and charge a good deal more, and id go for it. it would be the PERFECT amp.

Even if they put all the features that have been suggested on the amp people on this forum would still want more.

I think it looks a great amp with the features most players will use and by using an existing casing makes sense and keeps the cost down. They did this with the VT Deluxe. I don't care that it's a little bigger or heavier than a LM111 it's not exactly SVT weight is it ?

Looking forward to checking it out , well done Tech 21 !!

+1 Like I said... why the heck would anyone who know anything about gear buy this new Tech 21 amp with the crown XLS 1000 and a VT deluxe costing less, weighing less and supplying way more options and power?

seems a no brainer to me...

and no, lugging this 300watt ss head around should not be compared to lugging a full SVT around, thats about the feel and playability of the tubes IMO
