New Tech 21 VT Bass 300 Head!

I agree with the majority here. Great idea, but could have been executed much better. It will be interesting to see what the price tag is. Hopefully some people buy them, and they continue to develop it into what it potentially could be - a really killer small rig.

A better route would have been a lightweight power amp with a housing for the VT pedal, or even just a separate lghtweight PA, sort of like SWR's Golight.

would that not limit it's desirability it to owners of vt's or other pre amps....

Of course it isn't. I like to be able to run two 4 ohm cabs. In my case these are two 212 cabs. It has nothing to do with trying to get the "most watts at 2 ohms" out of a head. I'm not sure how micro amps even apply to what I said, considering this is a normal sized rack mount amp.

a lot of rackmount amps with normal sized transformers also won't do 2 ohms. anyway, if you're not trying to squeeze every watt you can out of your small rig, that would make you one of the few.

I had to switch from my SVT2Pro to my Sansamp BDDI+Promethean mid-set last Friday. For that kind of live setting, it still sounded just as good, to me, and, with the full 500W pushing my 2 8 ohm cabs, it EASILY went way too loud. Oops! I had to turn down before the audience could even hear the drummer.

I'm fine with it only going down to 4ohms...I would just have liked a smaller footprint. I doubt this will approach the price point of such nice heads as the Hartke LH500 or LH1000...but one can hope!

I like the concept. But if it's priced like the Landmark 300 it won't be competitive. Too little power, too heavy, too expensive. I think I could almost ditch my pedal board for many gigs if I had three or four programmable channels, two doesn't quite cut it. Won't be running out to try this amp.

I wonder if by "Analog watts" they mean something like an (old) Acoustic amp. if so my 370 is super loud.

the way I look at it is 23lbs is a lot better than my 75lbs SVT monster. (but Still love the sucker!)

only thing is will it be loud enough?

I don't get this "only goes down to 4 ohms" thing. One big 4 Ohms or two small 8 Ohms cabs seems to be the obvious match for a 300w head IMO.

Is this issue a result of getting 4 Ohms 1x12 cabs or similar to get "all 500w" out of the micro heads?

The stress about 2ohms is from guys who want to squeeze every possible DB out of every possible watt. In other words, LOUD guys.

4ohms works just fine for me - I only buy 8ohm cabs and so never had an issue.

I agree. This head may end up selling, but a single channel class D option might sell like *hotcakes*, giving all those GB shuttle folks a run for their money.

The VT pedal is in a housing size/shape that is a common industry standard, so a head with a "dock" space for a VT would not be limited to that one pedal.

As far as "owners of other preamps", yes... that's the idea...

Why get a 25lb amp when you could buy a rackmount mod with a 500 watt class D power in 1u formfactor from Putnam for like 700-ish (might be +149 for the cost of the pedal, but still).

Based on a quick googling of the Tech 21 Landmark 300, I expect the Crown + VT to be significantly cheaper.

That's what I don't get about this, whatever you want out of a VT pre + power amp setup, there's a better way to do it than this new VT 300. Your Crown + VT is cheaper and way more power. If I want multiple channels I'd go for a VT Deluxe. I just don't see any possible situation where I'd choose the VT 300 option.

I use my Vt deluxe with a MB200. It is 2 lbs!! I would like to see something like these 2 products in one box. Those two in one box would be around 4 lbs.

It looks like it will be made in USA, so it will probably be more than $450, but you can bet that the components will be far superior to any imported copies soon to appear.

I've never tried the VT pedal, but, if you did'nt care for the Vt, you would'nt buy it, right, ? Seems like you would be selling to a small market.

All the more reason to keep the initial cost low and use an existing platform. If it sells like hotcakes, then I could easily see a micro VT head, but you are right, even though the VT gets lots of love here on TB, its still a relatively small market segment.

I'm already doing the VT into a Crown Microtech 1200 so, I can't see any improvement by jumping down to 300 watts.
