To be frank and upfront this attitude I have been seeing in this thread is why I simply will not participate in threads featuring comments from a certain reply poster in this thread.

In fact I am breaking my own rule here to comment on it now. I am doing this once and then returning to my self imposed exile from discussions that might include him. I do this now because I don't believe that his comments thus far have been either fair or helpful to this particular poster. Do I think CZ is a bit full of himself? Yes I do. But haven't we all been at one point or another, particularly when we were younger players, everything was new to us and we had a lot of energy to burn.

CZ is simply a good player with a poor command of the written English language which has led to what I believe are just plain old misinterpretations of intent. I simply appended each of his posts with a silent "I just discovered a new technique for myself" for the way he had it worded and it was alright from there. I certainly would not be able to express myself even close to this in CZ native language so it would be pompous of me (some might say typically American) to expect that CZ's command of English should be better than my command of his language.

What should be noted is no one alive today can say without question that they are in affect the "inventor" of any particular technique. We may have pioneers and we may have folks who have put a new spin on something older but most of what we are using today is refinement of techniques that were likely discovered long, long ago.

Even the music we play, the changes, the beats, the structures almost everything has a root in someone else’s work. This is the nature of music.

We should always frown on anyone beating up on anyone else for a little bravado here. If we can't boast once and awhile amongst ourselves I don't see the point in having a social connection to our fellow players like we have here at TB.

CZ - You are doing well. Don't let anyone discourage your pride just make sure you know the difference between a little boast and outright exaggeration. If you ever get to the US I'd love to put my melodic approach over your rhythmic experiments any day.

Mods – I was shut down once, and rightly so, when I went a little overboard in my comments to a poster. Where are you now when an old member seems to be getting “off base”? I would hope that you would give him the same “lighten up” message you gave me once. It was good advice to me and I thank you for it. Hopefully someone else will take the advice to heart as I did.

I also felt as though "someone" was trying to start an arguement with CZ, and was amazed because I felt that as a veteran of Talkbass, that "someone" should be trying to set an example.

I was not being hard at all on the OP or was I trying to start an argument,I'm one of the most chilled guys here at tb.

Maybe there was some misunderstanding because of a language barrier to some degree but I offer no apologies.


My final comment has nothing to do with the op but I can say that I have invented a few techniques on bass that has never been done before and I have yet to have another bass player(or any musician)say that they have seen these techniques before and I'm not bragging just making a point.

I really didn´t want to write stuff like this, but I rely on you, that you would try to understand me:

I heard few things from you and you are a good player. But i dont think, that you are that technically oriented to understand the differences and details in the technical approach i am trying to achieve. Don´t take it offensive, because I really don´t mean it this way. Iam talking now about that single handed slap - the original post in this thread - its not a left hand percussion, its not a left hand tapping.

Its like when i take a look at the piano players... their playing is all the same to me...For me both Hiromi Uehara and Chick Corea are using the same technique - they´re pressing down the keys, but if I was a piano player I wouldn´t say such a thing.

I really dont want to sound like : " Hey , you cannot play what I play...who are you? You are nobody! " Thats ********... I always (always, because I am quite often explaining this ) use this example:

I dont have to be a good cook to recognise a meal i dont like. Thats ok for me. I can say that I dont like the meal, but I have no right to argue with the chef.

But there is a problem... You have to play it to be able to understand it...

So please think twice (maybe more times because of my english ) before you start to defend your dishonored skills.

Ok guys - here's the deal: I'm a full-time musician, bandleader and military member. I also am a husband, father and I have other interests (gasp!) outside of Talkbass, and music for that matter. I simply can't read every post in every thread in the two forums I moderate.

If someone's coming out of the box, please use that little (!) icon and report the post. I'll check it out, I promise! I'm closing this thread, and will more than likely delete it because of all the negativity and bad feelings in it.

From now on, if something bothers you - report it!
