New Thunderfunk

The Thunderfunk is about the best "just plug in and play" amp I've heard! With everthing flat, it just sounds great!! I really haven't tweaked mine since I got it last year

HiYa Jerry
So does the TF pump that HT212 or which cab do you use? 400w seems a little on the short side....but read many think it's plenty..

I mostly use the Thunderfunk with my small rig, either one of two Bergie HT112's. But I have used it with other cabs including my Bergie HT3/10 & HT2/12. The Thunderfunk might be rated at 400 watts, but it's a loud 400 watts......louder than the SVT3 & SM400 I have laying around, with the same wattage rating.

Hi everyone. I've had my TF for about a month now and have enjoyed putting it through its paces. I've done 4 sessions and 16 gigs with it and haven't felt even once like I needed anything else- it does the job very, VERY well. I'm using it with a 2X12" cab- tons of booty, super punchy, and very rich and warm sounding. It's immediacy in it's delivery rocks my world. It really doesn't get any better than this, IMO. Killer amp, and Dave is a great guy too.

well you guys have convinced me, I am officially saving up for a Thunderfunk. If things go right I should be able to get one by September or October... thinking about getting an Epifani 112 to go with it
When I had one to play around with, I paired up the Thunderfunk head with a T-112 and T-110UL. This was a phenomenal setup, and a very good match, FWIW.

I have used the TF with a Bergantino HT 322 and it pushes it with no problem. I just bought an Accugroove 2-12 EL Whappo JR. and the TF really sounded great with that cab. I am really impressed with the Thunderfunk.

The only negative that I've heard on the Thunderfunk was it's lack of headroom. I owned a Berg and know how power hungry they are but if the TF pushes the Berg's fine then I would think it wouldn't have any problem with conventional cabinets (SWR or Eden). Has anyone played the TF in some pretty high volume gigs with no problem? I don't play that loud but do want enough headroom to assure a nice clean sound. I'm looking to replace my Mesa M-Pulse 600 and from the sound of it the TF might be the amp I'm looking for. I've played mostly with a SWR SM-400 over the last 14-15 years and purchased the Mesa for a warmer tone. The Mesa sounded great but was a bit to warm for my liking. Would you consider the TF some where between the SWR and Mesa? How would you compare the power output of a TF to a bridged SM-500?
Thanks for any comments!

I'd say that's actually probably pretty close to accurate. I have a Walkabout, so I am used to the M-Pulse tone. The Thunderfunk will present a more broad range of useable tones, and overall is not as warm. However, there is a certain degree of similarity between the two. If you keep the Gain on the Walkabout low, and use Master for volume, with all EQ set flat on both heads, the Boogie and the Thunderfunk are going to sound more alike than the Thunderfunk and an SWR, IMHO.

I like to have headroom to burn (I find that many of my cabs like a good bit of watts behind them), but if this is not an issue for you, the Thunderfunk is really a very excellent, and very versatile head.

Sounds like the sound that I'm looking for. I did some more thread searching and also found some very helpful comments from other users in other threads. The only cabinet I currently own is an 8 ohm SWR Goliath Jr. III so lots of headroom really isn't an issue. If volume becomes an issue I probably could get another 8 ohm cabinet and optimize the output of the Thunderfunk at 4 ohms. I went ahead and ordered a Thunderfunk so I should be able to form my own opinion by mid-week. Thanks for the input. It's nice being able to weigh the comments made by players that have tried the amp prior to making the purchase.

Judging from how well (and how loud) my TF pushed an Eden D410XLT/Bag End combination, along with using it on various occassions with my Nahas and Bag End cabs, I'd say your SWR should be more than happy running with the TF. I haven't tried mine with my EAs yet because I'm still toying with the idea of selling them and if they sound like I think they'll sound with the TF I'll just have to keep them;)

BTW a TF with two Aggie GS-112s... geez. So far my amp has made everything sound better that I've connected to it.

In addition, I've compared it to a bunch of amps supposedly of the same wattage and even more than double and so far without fail everyone comes away scratching their heads...

"How in the world does it do that?!?"
