New Thunderfunk

Judging from how well (and how loud) my TF pushed an Eden D410XLT/Bag End combination, along with using it on various occassions with my Nahas and Bag End cabs, I'd say your SWR should be more than happy running with the TF. I haven't tried mine with my EAs yet because I'm still toying with the idea of selling them and if they sound like I think they'll sound with the TF I'll just have to keep them;)

BTW a TF with two Aggie GS-112s... geez. So far my amp has made everything sound better that I've connected to it.

In addition, I've compared it to a bunch of amps supposedly of the same wattage and even more than double and so far without fail everyone comes away scratching their heads...

"How in the world does it do that?!?"

Brad,
Your comments (in another thread) concerning the Thunderfunk were the clincher for me ordering one. Historicaly, your opinions and comments concerning grear tend to be right on so I figured it was a save bet! I'm looking forward to the test drive when it arrives! :hyper:

[Ears perk up] Someone might be selling some EA cabs? :D VL-110's, right?

Yeah... get in line:D

A friend stopped by last night (made another phenomenal bass deal... for me;)) and basically agreed with the little voice in my head. They were both telling me that I'd be pretty stupid parting with my VL-110s. They sound GREAT.
Easily my favorite of the EA cabs I've heard and one of my favorite cabs period. WYPIWYG;)

I'm going to go ahead and take them out with the TF next gig, whatever it is. The TF already addresses the only issue I had with running my AMP BH-420 with the EAs... I had to push it harder and it heated up more than I cared for. With the fan on the TF that should be a non-issue.

Thanks, I really appreciate that. I try to avoid "Next Big Thing" syndrome, which can above all else be fairly costly. I've had enough people express disbelief in how good this amp sounds live and on various cabs that I know it's not just me:D

I'm look forward to your impressions of it.

Anyone found a gig bag that's a nice fit for the Thunderfunk? The GK 700RB bag might fit but it's dim's are 17.5 x 8 x 3.5 and the Thunderfunk dim's are 17 x 10 x 3.5
A store that had one in stock told me that it measured just under 10" deep.
I really don't want to put it in one of my SKB racks (kind of defeats the light weight advantage).

I carry mine in a 3 space rack bag along with a Korg rack tuner. Almost feels empty;)

Sounds like a rack bag is the way to go. I guess I better order the rack ears for the amp. Is it OK to mount the amp in a 2U rack bag? I know some amp mfr's recommend a 1U space above the unit.
Thanks

The Thunderfunk arrived this afternoon. I had a chance to play a couple of my basses through it (and a SWR JR. III cab) and first impressions are really good. I definetely see how it obtained a rep of being a great "plug and play" amp. I set all EQ's flat and the sound is really awesome. Really big and very tight. The warmth of the low freq's through the Jr. are amazing. It actually has a lot of the warmth that my M-Pulse had but much more focused/tight sounding. Just tweaking the EQ's a little convinced me that this amp should really be able to dial in some good sounds. I'll give another update after playing a gig or two with it.

I haven't used it with Bergantino, but through my Epifani cabs, the Thunderfunk sounds absolutely meaty. The natural punchy clarity of the TF matches up great with the thickness and punch of the Epifani.

Also, for a more studio sound, the TF sounds AMAZING into the Euphonic Audio VL-110. So smooth yet so hittin at the same time! The only cab i've played that doesn't sound that great with the TF is the EA CXL112L - just too much midrange. That cab sounds great with the iAMP 800 though...

It's like 7-11. Too much good stuff.

Thanks vanselus. Is there plenty of headroom when driving the epifani speakers? The TF sounds amazing on basstasters but I dont know how it will work with the Bergantinos. I dont like everything I put through them so Im a bit skeptical.

In my limited Bergantino experience, they were really smooth, so anything that has a little edge IMHO would be sweet into them. The TF definitely has enough headroom to do the Berg's justice.

I use a Bergantino HT322 with an Ashdown ABM500 EVO. IT has 575W @ 4 ohms and it kicks a** through my Bergie. I questioned whether it was enough power initially, but I[ve been using that rig for over a year and I've never felt I needed more power or headroom.

That said, a Thunderfunk is on my Shortlist to try out with my Bergie. So is the EA iAMP800. ... and the new Aguilar AG500. sigh. GAS ... it's a disease! (and I like it! What have I become? sigh)

I use my Thunderfunk with my two Bergie HT112's.....excellent! I have a lot of different cabs, and the Thunderfunk has sounded great with them all.

Well I played the TFB420 at two gigs now. What a great sound! So warm and phat! I almost removed the amp top to make sure there was no pre-tube in there! Very tight and focused. I used my Elrick 5 and Roscoe fretless 5 this morning and the tone was so inspiring! It's actually warmer than my SWR SM-500 and also capable of higher volumes without distortion! I really like the Enhance and Timbre controls! They offer such fast usable sound variations. This amp is exactly what I've been looking for. I sold a Mesa M-Pulse 600 to get it and have absolutely no regrets! Much more overall tone than the Mesa (and I really haven't played with semi-parametric EQ yet). This is without a doubt the best sounding bass head I've played through. And that list includes a couple of Alembic F1-X and Demeter pre's with Stewart amp's!

OH BRAD!
Did you say the TF has enough power for the epifani
boxes? My gk800 has always been enough for most
applications, but my epi's really want more. The TF
is 240 @8ohms. The gk is 200 @8ohms. Any idea if
or how they are getting more headroom?

Dave Funk: I've heard this many times. The way I'd describe it is an 400 HP car with traction, compared to an 800 HP car with no traction. It's more than just raw horsepower.

Better yet, I'll pm Dave:D
