New Trace Elliot 1200 amp !

I've always found that to me graphic eq vs knobs compares (illogically) to credit card vs cash. IDK I feel a lot more comfortable sliding up a fader than turning a knob to an extreme. Just like it is so easy to swipe a card and handing over cash feels more difficult.

Don't forget the "Smiley face of cab destruction" is a real thing.

Also interesting choice for caster location. So bend waaay over to roll it or stack everything else on the cab front? It just seems like an unfortunate spillage, badly timed rain shower, or a falling heavy 1/4" plug or screwdriver poses a lot of risk that casters on the bottom would prevent.

The cabs have "coffin lids" so they could be used to transport other equipment on top. An add on handle for user comfort (standup posture) while equipment pushing might help…

Is the lid extra? Also yet another big piece of something you need to store or keep track of while using the cab. Am I missing something here? Well, besides the fact I missed that it has a lid for the front lol. Always hated rack setups because the front and back panels never quite seemed to be anything but in the way when using the amp.

Ok lid is included. Still a big panel to have to store though.

I'll be the fossil here. Who the hell needs a 1200 Watt amp? Where do you use that much power/headroom?

I doubt too many people are actually pushing the 1200watt limit at gigs, but there are a few reasons why someone would want/need that many.

-A lot of modern music calls for super deep synth-bass type sounds which require much more headroom to amplify cleanly

-Some people are still under the impression that “class D watts” are less stout than “big iron watts” or “class AB watts” so this may be an effort to curb any class D skepticism.

-Higher headroom doesn’t just mean it can go super loud. I find that I prefer the sound of higher wattage amps, even at reasonable volumes since there seems to be much better headroom and “oomph” for lack of a better word.

-You don’t have to push the amp very hard, so, in theory, it should be more reliable. Not sure how true that is, but I’d rather have a 1200w head on 3 at a 4 hour gig, than a 300w head on 7 the whole time.
 
I still miss my RAH600SMX but I’m glad I’m not hauling it around. Even when I used a big rig I rarely used all the power on tap. But it was pure joy to run multiple cabs on a big stage.

These days I don’t see buying a 1200 watt head and 80 lb 4x10 to chase my nostalgia. I’m not playing Warwick 5 string basses either.

I look forward to hearing the demos.
 
I want to hear the reviews. The Transit B was a mixed bag for me, I want to see/hear the progress Peavey has made.

Other than that, I'm just glad to see something: 1. New, and 2. In stock! (as I post this)
I’m pretty disappointed with my Transit B . It sounds great, I love everything about it, but it’s already broken. Never left my house, one of the footswitches no longer works.
 
It's never re-assuring to see a Class D amp that claims 1200w rms power rating when it's mains draw is clearly listed as only 200w....I bet the internal fuse is quite small too...I miss the old led sled PSU's...you knew what you were getting easily.

I’m not an engineer, but I believe the power amps of class D heads work completely differently, and maybe much more efficiently, than older heads, so they may not need to draw as much power from the wall. That’s just a guess though. I’m sure someone like Agedhorse could set us straight on that.

This is simply because you don’t understand the basics of how amplifiers work, how amplifier efficiency factors into the calculations and the requirements for how the power consumption numbers are generated by the international safety agencies.

For example, with 85% efficiency of an SMPS/class D amp, the average power consumption calculation would be (1200W/.85)x.125 = 177watts, rounded up to 200 watts is legit.

the same calculations apply to lead sled amps except that the efficiencies are much lower (losses much higher) resulting is a higher average power consumption number.

The AC mains fuse is sized to protect against abnormal average current draw, as well as to protect from fire or personal hazard in the event of failure.
 
In the product description it says: "The Trace Elliot TE-1200 bass amplifier head boasts 1200 watts of REAL power, capable of driving up to FOUR Trace Pro cabinets per unit." The Trace Pro cabinets are 8 ohms. Anybody else wondering how it will drive four 8-ohm speakers if the minimum impedance is 4 ohms? You could wire two pairs in series, for a total load of 8 ohms, but there's nothing special about that. Just curious. If I'm bungling the math, let me know.

No matter what class of circuit or type of power supply an amp uses, it still requires electrical power to deliver output. No one has ever invented a device that delivers power without AC.
 
The amps seems somewhat attractive, but 11.5 pounds for a modern class D sound a little heavy. By comparison, the Markbass 1000 watt amps are all around 6 pounds.
I have a Peavey Minimega ( TE1200) relative and same weight. It's size is perfect because if it gets lighter the cab vibration will knock it to the floor. Also with that kind of power needs a couple of fans.
