New Trace Elliot ELF 1×10" and 1×8" Combos

Back in the stone ages TE stuff was everywhere. Even in small stores in the midwest when we toured. I loved their small combos. TE has a sound and motif all its own and I've always liked it. I'm very much drawn to their new line of small stuff but I have a nice GK and Eden setup that works well for me. I'm actually going to downsize when this thing ever gets over and musicians can play out again. Maybe then I can get rid of some gear and try the TE stuff.

If the combo sounds good and puts out a good thump it will sell regardless of price. Bass amplification continues to get smaller and lighter. Good for all of us. I remember schlepping around 100 pounds of gear when I was young. Even then I didn't find that fun. Good for us that we can buy small efficient amps nowadays.

My old Trace Elliot 4x10 weighed over 100 pounds by itself. I was bringing over 300 pounds of gear to each gig

The Thomann website lists the weight, but not the dimensions of these combos.
Thomann lists the weight of the 108 as 7.76 kg.
The 1 x 10 is listed as weighing 8.21 kg

I think this thread was about the new Elf combos...

I like the idea of the combos, but think their design is a bit dated and they missed a TON of opportunities to make this thing REALLY useful and marketable... at least from my perspective as a current Elf head and 2-2x8 owner.

I would have liked to see the following config changes:

1. IMHO
   1. They should have made a 2x8 combo
   2. And a 1x10 combo
2. AND QUIT using 1/4" TRS for speaker outs USE Speakon's!! (there's plenty of room on the combo to replace the TRS) they have an XLR - why not a Speakon?
   1. The cabinets have Speakons, why not on the amp?
3. And where the heck is the AUX in jack?
   1. This should be a standard on a small format amp like this / silly that this has been overlooked a 2nd time
4. And why the heck are they sticking with the 1/4' headphone jacks?
   1. Use the smaller 3.5m jack!
   2. I have at least 5 sets of high-end headphones (>$400 each) and they ALL have 3.5m standard jacks
   3. And for the limited audience that needs an adapter, they cost $3 - heck include one

I have velcro'd my Elf head to the top of one of my 2x8s to make my 'own combo' but it would be cool to have it built in for ease of transport, but IF and ONLY IF it had these port changes. These things look like they came from the 1900s or early 2000s.

I wonder what Peavey's response would be to all of these comments...

I wonder if they literally take the ELF heads off the assembly line, remove its outer casing but keep the face, and slide it into one of these new combos.

The combo has a headphone / speaker selector on the output and selectable input voltage while the head doesn't. There's also a very minor labeling difference at the headphone jack.

The voltage selection hints at a different power supply. The headphone / line out jack differences hint at some differences around the function of the headphone jack, but it may simply disconnect the internal speaker.

For those that own an Elf head, does plugging into the headphone jack disconnect the speaker output, or can it be used as a line out while powering a speaker?

Likely don't put the outer casing/cover on in the 1st place if the unit is destined for a home in the combo.

Yeah, it has a 1/4" headphone jack opposite the input, I was told by a Peavey rep a couple years back they kept it that size because it looked better/balanced on the face with the input..

Peavey started out so strong with Trace when they first bought them, I really don't understand what their business model is at this point. If they brought out a class D version of the AH 600-12 at a competitive price I think they could compete with the Subway stuff, etc... The Elf stuff is frankly kind of toy like compared to the initial run, and not just in terms of weight, but features and sound. They already own that technology, all they would have to do is maybe change the form factor a bit for a smaller size and pair it to a 500+ watt class D power section (which they also already have).

I agree. They could have easily put the Mini Mega 1000w power amp in there. The AH600 stack I tried at GC sounded really good with a MusicMan and a bit of the on board compression. If they would've done what Mesa and GK do...I guess that's a bit too many resources for bass amplification in their view.

I really, really love two of those ELF 2x8's when pushed with 800 or so watts! Can't wait to try them with the TE-1200!

Question for those who might know:
I noticed under the specs sheet in the manual for these newish Trace Elliot Elf combos a 12” combo is listed!? (as well as a 12” extension cab)

..but I can’t find anything else about this mythical combo online.

Did TE initially plan to release a 12” version of the new Elf combo and then scrap it?

Is it possible it’s still on the way?

I’m in the market for a new combo and have been thinking about the 10” but if there’s a 12” coming I’d probably hold out for it.

Does any TB’r have the inside dope about this as-of-yet unreleased 12” combo??

Same question here: where are this 12 combo and the extension?

I hope they will be released in the near future.
Now we have a Pro line using 12” speakers, so this 1x12 combo would be the the perfect link between the first Elf products and the new Pro line.
If anybody have some information…
