New unexpected bass day: fender precision

i didn't expect to see this american original 60s precision at the store. tried it out and it sounded so good i impulse bought it. changed the tortoise shell pickguard to parchment or aged white. i can't tell what it is but it goes nicely with the clay dots.

one of the best sounding precisions i've played. it's a nice companion for my 76 precision. the 76 lows are not as deep and has a mellower attack from the american original. the AO has a smooth, kind of mature tone that transitions cleanly from note to note. it's the sound i expect when i hear a p bass. maybe it's all in the strings.

I think it may be against TalkBass rules to remove a tort pickguard, but I'm with you - that white guard is an improvement!

That lake placid blue looks much lighter with the white pickguard. I had a 3 color sunburst American Original 60s pbass. Sold it last year and still regret it to this day. Awesome sound for those 63 pickups. Enjoy and congratulations!

it also looks darker and more metallic in different light. and i love how dark the fretboard wood is.

It was my understanding that TB rules dictate that when you remove your tort pickguard you have to mail it to the first guy who claims it. Dibs!

so much passion for the ninja turtle shell here
the turtle shell that comes with the american original precision is so dark though.

i like the contrast of a light color pickguard on lake placid blue. it's still period accurate. not like i replaced it with a mirror or carbon fiber or polyester purple paisley pearloid.

i have turtle shells on my road worn jazz and vintage white jb62ss though.

Btw, with the AO 60s Strats all the three colour options - 3 tone sunburst, olympic white and shell pink - come with mint pickguard.
