New US made Tube amp from Ashdown!

I have a feeling the chrome-faced amps will look better in person than in photo. Its hard to capture the true majesty of shiny reflective things like chrome in a press still. That said, I know the chrome on the rack-mounted ABM heads was supposed to make it pretty hard to read the control's labels on stage. I suppose this could be an issue when you're dealing with a MID-BASS-TREBLE array instead of the standard MID in the middle type of thing. But only if you're knob-twiddlin mid gig.

Looking over the front panel, I'm curious where the VU meter fits in, in terms of function. On my ABM it's an input meter, and you use it set the input level... this one has no input knob, only the "low" and "high" inputs, and the VU is labelled OUTPUT. Will it just show the level of output? Doesn't seem like that would serve much of a practical function, whereas the input knob and VU meter is especially helpful when dealing with different instruments, or trying to set the output level of stompboxes and fx.

I'm not going to get one, probably, seeing as how I'm poor, but this wouldn't trouble me at all, as I'm used to the Mid-Bass-Treble arrangement from my mesa head. It's not that hard to remember. I'm not much of a knob twiddler, either.

Man, I know the price of these amps is going to make them out the window for me, but I've wanted one ever since I saw the first pic of one. Got no idea what they sound like and I don't care. I guess I'll just have to console myself with these vintage Ampegs I have, but those old Trace tube heads were sweet and I expect these will sound in the ballpark.

Sounds like there will be a "Shootout in Ohio" between the Ashdown 427 and the Trace Elliot V8 soon. With the limited info on the 427, a comparison: The 8 KT88 power amp tubes are the same, they don't list how many preamp tubes are in it, no 2nd drive channel, no compression, and slightly higher wattage (but we don't know the OHM levels). There may be additional advancements, but who knows yet. I certainly want to hear one, and it's reviews. :hyper:
