new wah-pedal

Hi, im looking to buy a new wah-pedal. I have never had one before and thought it would be cool to have one. So far im kinda leaning toward a Dunlop 105Q but that was just a shot in the dark. Any suggestions/experience with the 105Q

From what I've read on the board, the 105q has a tone-altering bypass. Test it out before you buy, just to be sure.

The Wowee wah by G labs is pretty nice. Have been through several different brands over the years and this one won the spot on my board. Marlowedk has a vid on youtube on it if you'd like to hear it. A bit pricey at around 200 bucks, but I found they will deal a bit on them if you ask.

The 105Q works for me, there's a little adjustability there, although I'd love to be able to adjust the range of the sweep and not just the width. The level control seems kind of pointless to me, seems like full up is unity gain. The switchless thing is pretty cool though, as I sometimes like to throw it in for just a short fill, or even on a single note for a bit of accent.

I had a Morley for a bit, the blue one that preceded the current dual mode bass wah. Never really dug it, got way too thin toward the toe down position. Plus the too-wide base made it a huge waste of space on a pedalboard.

On a side note, anyone know of a wah with a clean blend built in?

Maybe the old bass crybaby?(the black one without the pot on the side..I think it#s called gcb 100, )
I hear good things about it.
Not sure if it's easy to get though.

To elaborate just a touch...I like a lot of treble in my tone. It seems that this is where most of the 'tone suck' with the 105Q is, and many folks who do not notice it, also tend to have less treble in their desired tone...would you guys who said you didn't notice any problem be able to confirm that?

Regardless, if an effect 'sucks tone', but it does so at frequencies that aren't an integral part of your sound then it won't matter to you. I've had that experience, too, using pedals that supposedly have a 'tone sucking' bypass, but that sounded great to me.

+1 for the Ibanez Weeping Demon

I prefer optical to the wahs with the old fashioned
potentiometers...

the weeping demon has multiple settings old school and new and has a suprising amount of adjustability and tweakability

they don't advertise it as such...but it has several settings for bass

I love my Dunlop 105Q and never had any problem with the bypass. I use a P bass with flatwounds. That pedal is easy to use, tracks perfectly and sounds beautiful. I love putting a fuzz in front of it too! Great pedal, highly recommended.

What kind of music do you play? It'll help to know what kind of sound you want. And IMO, Weeping Demons are "alright" sounding, pretty versatile little pedals. However, if you want a wah that will have you never looking back.....

Morley is the way.

I recommend the newer ones before checking the older models to make sure you like the sound, though that's a false statement as the modern and older units sound eons apart. My personal modern faves are the Dual Bass Wah and the Mark Tremonti, both are pretty nice for most styles of playing.

That being said though, my knees will always buckle at the insanely menacing sound of my PWB's huge, screaming sweep. Like a grizzly turning into a panther then back to a grizzly, all in a single sweep.....

Definitely a tone suck on the 105q. Just saying, it's there whether some people notice or not. I could NOT preserve the slap sound that I worked to get with that in the chain. Now, the resulting tone may not be bad, I'm not saying suck as in no tone afterwards. It's just not what it was beforehand.

Definitely a few other nice suggestions here.
