New Wave / Punk forebears...

Is it you? Based on your username, figured I'd ask...

No, he's great, I'm ok. I did get my user name from that song as stated in first post. I meet him at a show they did in LA, swinging out from SBSX a few years back. I also had a quick email session with him about gear and influances. Nice guy! I have just been a fan from back around 86 or so.

That would be a pretty shallow to do what you are suggesting. I would not mind playing as good as he does.

Slightly different, but in the same indie-vein as many of the previously mentioned bands.

One guy who I feel like gets mentioned more for his production excellence rather than his bass excellence (exceptional at both) is Dave Fridmann of Mercury Rev. *If you have not heard the albums "Yerself is Steam" or "Boces" you owe it to yourself to give a listen.

Yeah I am a big fan of those two albums, though after that they lost me. Baker got kicked from the band and they changed a lot afterwards.

Incidentally all of The Flaming Lips played on "Steam" and Jon Donahue of course played on a couple of Lips albums. I got to be in the studio during some of the recording of the first Rev album and was present when a good friend of mine was doing that album cover.

Few things sadden me musically as much as the directional shift of Mercury Rev after the first two LP's. I like the single "Holes" but to me that isn't really at all like listening to Mercury Rev, but another band entirely.

Amazing your proximity to so many great artists! You really are blessed with your experiences!

Great band! First I've ever seen of a mention here on TB. Cool.
