New Wave / Punk forebears...

Mentioned this cool Aussie band early on in the thread. Their album "The Jaws of Life" in particular really got me. Their bass player Jon Archer is great. Their early work (even earlier than these vids) is far more weird and raw, then after "Jaws of Life" they got far more commercial sounding. Not bad, but I kind of stopped following them.

Two cuts by Hunters & Collectors from "The Jaws of Life." :

Sick! This thread is back from the dead!

My love for Dub born out of love of post-punk bass has led me to a fantastic compilation by a man who understood the power of bass quite well. This compilation was just released and is an excellent showcase of just that.

Adrian Sherwood - Sherwood at the Controls. Volume 1 1979-1984.

Cool. I was quite into some of the On-U Sound stuff. Especially "Drastic Season" by African Head Charge. BASS HEAVY, YO.

Paul Kean of The Bats is amazing. Maybe on the outside portions of New Wave and Post Punk but I think Kiwi rock still works for this thread.

Plus I pulled my name from this song it is that good imo.

The bassline on this song is ridiculous. Dude's fills just leave my jaw hanging open. Amazing. I need to sit down and try to figure it out sometime. Overall just an incredible tune. Love it.
