I love this thread!!
Other people know Throbbing Gristle and Clock Dva
At this period I was also listening Coil.
And then discovered Ministry and NIN
A friend of mine was a DJ in a nightclub, and I convinced him to play some of their songs. Almost nobody knew them in France. It was fun to see all the people becoming totally crazy and dancing like fools![]()
lovin' this thread too......picking up all sorts of neat s*~t. next to Bad Brains (Darryl Jenifer - huge influence, monster player) this is my 2nd favorite punk band of all-time, these ladie's were fierce. (another tune I talked our band into covering).
Hey--cool to get turned onto Wymond Miles and Slug Guts! Never heard either band and they sound killer! If you had told me these tracks were from albums released in 1983 I would totally believe it.
And I mean that in the best possible way!
Bad Brains were a big deal for me as well. Rock For Light, I Against I...great stuff. Love how they could turn on a tight dime from blistering HC to dub reggae in a split second.
That's one other thing about this era and these genres of music that shouldn't be overlooked...not only did bass really come to the foreground in a lot of these bands, but there was much more female involvement and inclusion than there really had before in the world of pop/rock. Red Aunts, Raincoats, Slits...kind of the germinating seed of the later Riot Grrrl movement.
Wow, good call, big over sights.OK 10 pages in and I didn't see David Wm Sims from Scratch Acid / Jesus Lizard, or Rob Wright from Nomeansno. Also, the bassist for Chance and the Contortions is great too! Glad to see Pere Ubu, Mike Watt & others mentioned in here - great thread.
I'll be honest I read quickly so if they were already mentioned I apologize!
