New Wave / Punk forebears...

And now time for one of my favorite bassists!
Graham Simpson / John Porter / John Gustafson

Haha. You might wonder what? That's three people. Yep your right but all three at one time or another held down the bass duties for my number one all time band Roxy Music. Unless you check the personnel on all of their albums you'd swear it's the same person. They all sounded great and had some very cool approaches to Ferry's songs.

Going hometown again with Kelly Noonan from Billy James. She is also a hell of a drummer and producer.

She also produced an obscure album for Harvey Milk cleverly titled "The Kelly Sessions"

Viet Cong are great! Another modern day throwback I got is Protomartyr.

and Parquet Courts! *I strongly recommend all three of their LP's*

I also mentioned the band Ought back on Page.2 .. I can't stress enough how great their debut album is. I've listened to it multiple times a day for the past couple weeks.

Blown away, 2 turn ones for me! I a going to look into both of these bands and 10cc Viet Cong

Have you guys checked out Total Control or TV Ghost? Down this ally for sure.

Funny you should mention Total Control, I only just discovered them this week. TV Ghost I will look into!

I love the fact that you know a lot of the great NZ bands! Flying Nun/Dunedin scene produced some amazing music. Great music for such a small country.

This is slightly off course, and I cant find who supplied the bass for the album.. regardless, this is one of my favorite modern acts from NZ.

Went to a gig they played at few months back. Also on bill was one of Mike Watts bands. ST played a few early songs. Current and passed bass players are amazing.
That would've been cool. I think Mike Watt produced that ST album?
Quick Watt story.
Back in 95-6? Me and my wife went to Stone Mountain park (metro ATL area) to see a little first time alternative festival they hosted. Soul Coughing, G.Love and Special Sauce, a few others and Mike Watt with Grohl, Vedder and somebody else. Anyways during a song someone hit Mike with a beer bottle and he stopped the show and singled that dude out. I mean the crowd shot back in a circle about ten feet around homeboy. He looked like " ***" did I just do?!

So being a bassists since the eighties and totally influenced by the late 60's & 70's this was kinda an unexpected good moment to witness.

Connan Mockasins

What is effect on bass? It has that old school funk thing going on. I have just started picking up effects so I am not to hip on envelops and phasers. Any idea? Real interesting stuff. I looked deeper and found I live session with these guys. Like it ,thanks!
