New Wave / Punk forebears...

Whoa man! How have I never heard of the Homosexuals before?! I have pretty good reach, and depth into the genre, and this is just now my first time hearing. Very cool!

Dead Moon is great too! Giving me this sort of 13th floor elevators vibe. I dig!

Not usually spoken of for their proficiency, but this is one of my favorite tracks from one of my favorite albums all time.

Totally hip to the Raincoats! Yeah Dead Moon had a member/s in a sixties Psychedelic garage band called "Lollipop Shoppe.

Another American Post-Punk band that seems to get overlooked.. The Bass doesn't stand out in any way, but the band is great regardless.

Then there are these guys that also get overlooked (British).

and these lads.

and lastly. (RIP Nikki Sudden & Epic Soundtracks)

I've always thought that Gordon Gano from The Violent Femmes sounded a lot like Peter Perrett from The Only Ones.

This albums amazing!

This albums amazing!

It is a very brave album, they just kind of went for it.

I first heard the Raincoats by listening to the Kitchen Tapes, and totally didn't get what the fuss was about. Then I listened to that debut album, and was blown away. I don't care how off the drummer is, there is just so much charm all over that record. Definitely in my top 10 for sure.

This seemed to get off of great bass players and into interesting bands. That said I did not see mentioned The Wake, Theater of Hate, Souther Death Cult, the Chameleons, Fra lipa lipo, Modern Eon, Modern Engish ( great bass player) 999, the Names, Sad Lovers and Giants, Low Life(same bass player as CT), Dif Juz, Mass, the Swans, Flux, Mighty Lemon Drops, Inca Babies, the Three Jones, Nice Strong Arm, Four Against(very solid bass lines), Savage Republic, Slint, Squarrel Bait, Pantom Tollbooth, My Dad is Dead, the Ex, Volcano Suns. Got to stop, sure I am missing some but I have gotten off subject and am headed towards Grunge.

I was thinking the same thing actually lol. We should probably try to steer it back on course!

That said, you are only the second person I have ever seen that knows of Nice Strong Arm!

one of my favorite musicians -Christina Billotte (guitar , bass, drums, vocals)- Queen of the Silvertone, played bass & sang in Autoclave w/ Mary Timony on guitar. Then went on to form Dischord Records hidden gem Slant 6, then Quix-o-tic, then Causal Dots w/ Kathi Wilcox of Bikini Kill & the Frumpies. here is a killer track from Slant 6 first release. Slant 6 bassist Myra Powers just hammering--all down strokes -all the time. ps....I'm guilty too.

Also worth checking out for those that are into the broad spectrum of genres that exist under the new-wave banner I suggest the flexipop compilations. There are many of them, and they cover everything from post-punk, darkwave, neue deutsche welle. A lot of obscure gems on those comps.
