I believe what guitar amp you play makes more of a difference than the bass amp.

I believe I can buy a Line 6 modeling amp for $200 that'll nail every major guitar sound out there.

I design and build my own preamps and cabs. Why? Because I can.

Any properly functioning rack mounted power amp works fine for me, they are just commodity items at this point. I prefer light and no fan. I may build one eventually just for the heck of it, I guess.

I use Ashdown's ABM range and am happily endorsed by them. I do also use a small Mark Bass combo for the Big band shows that I do. It's smaller and lighter.

Ampeg SVT Classic (1994/95 model, with the red and blue SVT Classic logo) with it's matching 8x10.

I love the sound of that amp, it's warm, powerful yet punchy. There's nothing quite like it...

Different amps for different playing requirements and/or moods. When I want/need super hi-fi with big power, for ambient/electronica and/or drum & bass grooves? My EA iAmp Pro will get the call.

Big power that can handle more than (2) 8-ohm cabs? My Carvin B2000.

Bright & punchy with lotsa growl, i.e. for modern rock? My GK 700RB-II, MB500, or MB800.

Phat, warm, lush & tubey, i.e. for classic rock? My Mesa M-Pulse 600.

Something in between the GK sound and the Mesa sound, with a warm yet clean and highly versatile voice of its own? My Nemesis RS700.

At this point, my GAS pains - if any - are more for amps than they are for cabs, or even bass guitars. At some point, I'd love to pick up a Mesa Walkabout. Or maybe a Baer Valkyrie - once they're on the market.

I just don't need to...

I forgot to include Ampeg on my other thread.

I now use Aguilar since I wanted a light amp that had a nice rich sound. I did not want a super clean amp that was too bright or harsh. I used to have a Mesa Boggie 400+ and then Boogie Buster amp. 400 was too heavy and expensive to replace tubes on. Microphonic issues on a tube amp is a pain and time consuming to locate which tube is causing the problem. But I love the Boogie sound so much.

I use a Gallien Kruegar backline 250 - paired with a Cerwin Vega cabinet with a 15" JBL. - not an Ampeg, but it's pretty good

I've owned this stack for at least 14 years. When I did gig locally I only took with me the 2X10. Did great for those coffee house gigs and for garage jams the 1X15. This old stack was still under "made in the UK". It's a keeper for the next generation up and coming!

How does the Carvin sound compared to the Eden? I assume less smooth?

I use Genz Benz ShuttleMax 12.2 with SWR Goliath III and Goliath III Jr 4 ohm cabs.

The amp is lightweight with many tonal possibilities, doesn't heat up, and has TONS of power and headroom. My current band has no PA support for bass and we can get pretty loud.

The SWR cabs look nice, and sound great with all of my basses when lots of clean power is applied. I installed Eminance Deltalite 2510s in the smaller cab for better sound and power handling. Using either cab gives me sufficient bass coverage for large and small stage venues. I haven't yet played with both cabs hooked up, but I bet it will sound good, and be felt and heard by many!

GK..... why?

Versatile.
Solid and reliable.
Light. I don't own any of the micros, but c'mon..... the 700rb is under 20lbs.
My neo 112 series 1 cabs sound fantastic. Putting one of them on top of my series 1 212 while powering with the the 700rbII is a solid large stage rig. I love the smaller footprint of the series 1 cabs.... I think they sound a bit throatier than the series 2's as well.

-400rb - already a classic. Sounds awesome when pushing 2 x 112 neos.
