NEW: What amp do you use and why?

Mesa/Boogie Walkabout, 2x Genz-Benz 10t speakers. 300W, 13+16+16 lb, sounds better than my '63 Ampeg B15N with my AV '57 P (the Ampeg sounded better with my '51 P RI, but it weighed a tone, was expensive to repair, and had all of 40W).

After MANY brands I play G-K, why? It sounds awesome, is very versatile, is an excellent value, can be loud as heck and still sound good if I need low volume, reliable and owned/run by the same man that started it many decades ago.
I don't need to own a "brand" that has changed as many hands as a hash pipe at a Greatful Dead concert.

Genz Shuttle 9. It's the amp that cured my GAS. I was going to try out a Streamliner, but I've been very happy with the 9.

I play a MarkBass LMII because it's what I have.

Back in 2007, I wanted a micro head and the only options available to me at the time were the LMII and the F1. I liked the smaller size of the F1, but the knobs were spaced too closely and it didn't sound as deep as the LMII.

Why? Small, light, powerful, and flexible.

I like the preamps dirty and clean sounds, has two channels and has been very reliable thus far.

Markbass Little Mark III because I wanted lightweight and no maintenance. But, there are other micro heads I want as well. It's what I have now.

Ampeg SVT-4 thru an Ampeg 4x10 cab. I'd like to get a Markbass rig, but it'll be a while before I can get the cash together for that.

I've played Peavey, Kustom, Hartke, Carvin, GK, Univox, and Ampeg (and Ibanez, if you want to count a small combo; I don't). I'm currently exclusively using an Ampeg SVT-VR because it sounds good and makes playing fun. It's my only amp but, if I were to buy a smaller amp, I'd probably return to Carvin or GK. They were reliable, sounded good, and were a good value.

I use an Ampeg SVT 450H with the Ampeg SVT 410-H cab. Its solid state as I couldnt afford a valve head but I really wanted one for years. It is a great amp. I love a strong punchy tone and this delivers. It gives me everything from a punchy tone to a full chunky tone.

I bought my '76 SVT in 1987 I think, before they started up again. Got it to compete with a couple of marshall stacks. Didnt really know what i was buying exactly, had just read some article on "ground breaking amp designs" or something. Anyway, it sure sounded awesome, and still does, although it's a bit much in many situations.

Thats why I have a GK 400 RB, 1990. Had used several when sharing kit with other acts, so eventually picked one up as a back up/alternate to the SVT.


Then, when I had a few extra bucks I picked up a used GB Neopak, as I had read so many good things about GB here, and the price and weight were right.

So, I love all three and use whatever fits the gig and/or my mood.

I'd like to have a Markbass F1 (I think that's the model) too. Played around with one a bunch of times and really liked what it had to offer. Always a bit too much $$ though.

Main player Traynor YBA300- coz it's 300 all tube watts, 51lbs, sounds amazing, has the user bias/tube lockout system etc....
& Aguilar TH500- coz it doesn't sound far removed from the above. & Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 for lazy times.

All my amp stuff is Ampeg. I play it because it makes it easy for me to get sounds I like quickly.

Nothing better than a Fender Precision Bass -> Blueline Ampeg SVT -> Bergantino NV610(period).

I use the TC Electronic RH450 combo'd with the RS210 cabinet. The reasons being that the overall weight is very little, the tone (even set flat) is incredible with loads of options (especially with the available four presets), power, and the ability to send power to a potential three cabinets!

My grooves have slammed harder than ever before. The only downfall to this amp is that every time I use another brand... I'm a little disappointed. Haha!
