Double Bass New Wizzy?!

Although the new corners and handles don't bother me, the new wizzy doesn't have the EA look. IMO it looks cheaper. I'm guessing that the new handles are cheaper to install and since they stick out of the side of the cabinet the corners were put on in case the cabinet is set on it's side. I hope they don't do this with the rest of the line. edit: i guess it does bother me just a little but it wouldn't keep me from buying one (I have one - s'wonderful)

Good news about the handles to me! I thought the original handles just plain hurt to carry. At least that was the case on my old Whizzy combo...

But to remove the tilt back? I thought that idea was brilliant!

Will they install one if you ask really nice? :)

I've been saving for one and am really glad to hear of the improvements, but I would REALLY like the tilt back handle...

For you guys who buy the new Wizzy and want the tilt-back handle, it should be easy to install one yourself. It's just a spring-loaded case handle bolted to the bottom. You can get 'em easily from dealers like Parts Express, etc.

Would the after-market version end up being recessed when it is folded down, as is the case on the original Wizzy?

Maybe if we ask really nicely, they'll reinstate the tilt-back on the new production run. Seems they removed it because it was problematic (to whom I don't know). As I mentioned, I never had a problem with it. That is, except for the fact that if you have a separate head on top of it (I use the iamp200), it wants to slide off with the cab tilted. This can be solved by simply moving the amp (as I have done). With the combo there is, of course, no such issue.

Still, the absence of the tilt-back would not keep me from buying a Wizzy, given that there are accessories for effecting the same positioning.

Yeah, I noticed too that the current spring loaded handle does sit inside a nicely built recessed plate. I dig the tiltback stand on mine as well.

My combo sits flush with the floor I guess even though the handle is only partly recessed because of the height of the rubber feet on the bottom. The rubber feet on mine are about 1/2" tall. As you all pointed out, you'd have to work under this height, or put in a recessed plate yourself if you were to install a tiltback handle on your own.

Or you could just have a Wizzy that wobbles.

I think I'm glad I have two of the old Wizzys. I just like the look better, and I do use the tilt handle. I find that with the texture of the finish an iAmp 500 doesn't slide at all.

RE: amp head sliding off when using tilt-back feature....

My wife uses this non-skid thin rubber-like sheet of fabric on our hardwood floors, to keep the rugs from sliding all over the place. It works great under the amp head, and if you cut it a little smaller than the head, it doesn't show at all. It folds up neatly and fits into the bag with the amp.

I'm curious (and I surmise others are as well)-- what kinds of problems were reported with the tilt-back stand? At least the small sample here seems to really like it.

All in all, I dig the new features and will be ordering one.

Just a thought. Since some kind of tilt back option seems important to so many folks, how about something like the old fender amps used, rather than a tilt back handle? I, for one, would much rather have the tilt mechansim on the cab so it's one less thing to bring to a gig and one less thing to leave at the gig...
