New Year's Resolution - no new gear in 2010

Good for you, minimalism is a comfy life-style. Makes you appreciate the little things, like a bit of text written in Helvetica, the newly emptied trash, simple bread, atari 2600, simple black or white clothing without chains and unnecessary things etc etc..
OR just a simple bass guitar with a amp, no effects, just you and the strings making the sound.

I'm not ruling out new gear. I'm jut trying to be real with myself. Given my budget, and expenses, anything over $500 is a real stretch which means that anything I get will probably be used.
I have seen way too many nice basses for sale at TB by people who could not afford to keep them. Some of those basses have been mine. I would much rather keep a $300 bass than have to sell a $2000 one.

Well, I don't think I've ever made a New Year's resolution that lasted past March, so why should this year be any different? Sure, I'm in...for now.
There isn't any reason I NEED any new gear at this point. But as soon as I tell myself that...I find myself looking at those SX's on Rondo's website. I keep telling myself they're only $120, trying to justify purchasing one.
Plus, I'm on craigslist everyday looking for any smokin' deals on other gear I really don't need.

I tried. I made it as far as the fourth day. But then again, it's always good to start a year with a NBD.
If she gets to the point where she forces you to give your gear away... i call first in line...
Well, I rarely buy new gear. Last year I bought myself a Fretless SX Jazz, that and I traded away a vintage Morely VOL pedal for a Dual Bass Wah. Both were well worth it. Im not buying new gear so much as I plan on selling my RC-2 in order to purchase 2 new pedals, possibly a Tweak Fuzz and some sort of chorus.
No resolution needed for me. I've got one daughter graduating high school and another one graduating college.
New (or even used) gear is not even in the plans for 2010. Whatever gig money I make this year is already spent.

I had just gotten back into bass so I bought,
New sterling H/s 1500
Used Aguilar DB750 1400
New Aguilar DB212 1000
Used Orange AD200 1700
New Big Al Bass 1650
And a used stingray on its way 885$
This all started in about April Or May after I bought my GF a 3500$ engaugment ring..
So I think Im pushing 8000 throw in a pack of strings about every 2-3 weeks and I think Im close to 9500?

That may be the problem with the economy in the first place. Too many people -most of whom live in (North) America - living beyond their means, spending more than they earn, to paraphrase Fight Club: working jobs we hate to buy sh#@ we don't need.

Nope. I'm not talking about bassists specifically but you can't seriously deny that the average North American has a debt problem and a tendency toward materialism. That's not exactly a news flash. The average NA household carries over $8k annually in credit card debt almost exclusively used for wants... not needs. Whatever. I'm not judging but I am trying to be realistic... about my bass NEEDS anyway.
