New: Zoom B3n Multi-Effects

...Does anyone have any feedback about the quality of the headphones preamp? (Given the high quality headphones of cource.) I'm planning to use it for practising late at night and I am searching for the right tool.
I would stick with portable-friendly earbuds rather than low-impedance studio cans if you are using the built-in headphone output.

Specs for other factors like output impedance aren't available, but Zoom's power output specs are pretty lame: 15mw per side into 32 Ohms, vs 20mw for the G5n. That makes the Zooms better than a Samsung Galaxy S5, but noticeably weaker than an iPhone 6.

That's a shame, because the line outs on the G5n sound great through my Steinberg audio interface- I did some bench testing, and the noise floor, frequency response, etc. are up there with just about any 44.1KHz 24-bit hardware.

Ok guys, I need help. I finally broke down and ordered one, it got here this past week. I've been tinkering and having a good ol time with, but....

I'm not too savvy with this new Windows 10 laptop. I cant figure out how to download the patches. It took me a few tries to get the Guitar Lab on here. I open it and it shows blank. I'm not sure what the hell I'm doing. Is there a video or something I can see how to do it? I know I downloaded the patches, but I have no clue where they are or how to get them into the guitar lab. I'm a little pissed that I'm failing at this. I assume I have a setting wrong.

Thanks.

are you connected to your B3n via USB to your computer when you open Guitar Lab?

Zoom's July 2017 Guitar Lab Update released today and the B3n was not included.

Maybe next month...

Yup, and it was sort of a lame update for the Gn series at that. No new amps or cabs. Fingers crossed for more bass stuff soon. :nailbiting:

On another note, I did an outdoor show last week. Had a patch that featured primarily the SVT amp w/8x10 cab sim. When I used the B3, I'd tweaked this sound to sit right for me over the course of many gigs. With the new "n" series, though, this was the first run for my new SVT creation. At home, it sounds great. At the gig? Sounded great - big, full, fat, with plenty of mid presence, and very responsive. Very happy.

The rig I used was a pair of Dr. Bass 15" cabinets (don't hate me) loaded with 2-way coaxial neo drivers (by Ciare). I used the bi-amp speak-on outputs from a GK 1001RBII to power them. Much easier than lugging my SVT 8x10 cabinet, and sounded every bit as good IMO.

Anybody tried the quality of the B3n's dirt sounds against the Source Audio Aftershock Bass Distortion? I want to try the Aftershock, but if my Zoom B3n can already do almost anything the Aftershock can then I might put my GAS on hold then. Anybody care to help me? :)

No hate Jim. ;) I had a 2x10 from Dr Bass for a while. :) Glad to hear the 3n is working out. My Plex is still being repaired. :(

Haven't tried the them against each other and just chiming in because the Aftershock is excellent, but I had an Aftershock before I GASsed and got the Alpha/Omega. Although you may be able to coax something out of the B3n that you like, Aftershock all the way imo!... Also, just being captain obvious here, if pairing an external drive with the B3n it "may" cause issues with the external pedal's performance so, the impedance and output should be minded

Not to derail the thread but can the Aftershock imitate the Alpha Omega well?
Also the last sentence you said concerns me too, but I'll never be able to determine if there are issues once I get one. However, the B3n goes well along with my GK Plex and Joyo California Sound.

Alright, got to get much deeper in this thing. And happy to have got the updates and patches. I'm impressed. I can't wait to build patches for my band's songs. I can see this think making my life easier.

Question, how are you guys attaching it to pedal boards and what is the best bet for powering it? I also got the expression pedal to add on, but I think I will run it best to my board instead of having it on the board. Not sure I'll need it much.

Press and hold the windows key, tap "E" to get the file manger. On the left, look for "Downloads" and click that. On the right look for the files you downloaded. Windows key looks like:

windows-key-featured-500x375.jpg

That's a big windows key. On the left side in the file manger that opens, look for "Downloads," click it, and look for your files you downloaded in the right side pane.

Keyword, "pane," win8/10=pain :(

The rubber feet are a bit tall, so I removed them and placed Velcro on the bottom of the unit. Being anal, I stuck the feet on a paper label backing and stored it in a Ziploc bag in case I ever sell it.

I'm powering it from my TrueTone 1Spot CS7. Works great.

I found that the little rubber feet on the bottom of the B3n were too tall as well so I removed them. I did not keep them though as I have no intention of selling the unit. I cut grooves along the bottom of the pedal board so that it fits into a shelf in my rack so as to keep it secure during transport.

I power my pedal (a G5N actually) with a USB battery pack like this [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] that I plan on attaching with velcro to the side of the Zoom. I don't use a pedalboard, since the Zoom is my one and only pedal, and I like it as low to the ground as possible so I can rock my foot on my heel.
