New: Zoom B3n Multi-Effects

How are you b3n users finding the compressors?

Also, how would you rate the b3n in terms of its low gain/verge of breakup/tubey goodness?
I have found it useful to mix the compressors. I set the amount of compression on each one very low- down in the teens.

The LMT-76 and the rack comp are a good pairing.

I'm not a big drive guy- if I can hear it, it's too much. That said, I like the Fender heads for a little bit of limiting and hair on the notes.

On the MS-60B, I can't get the B-15 to NOT break up...

Hello everyone. I have a small question, please.

I have an Ashdown mag 300 evo II and I like it. The thing is I only use it at home and I don't have a band. Just play at home.

So I was thinking in maybe get something smaller.

I was thinking of buying the zoom b3n which I can get for 185 euros and buy a speaker or a monitor, not big but with good sound. Would this work? I have been reading the thread and there are some TBers with this system, but I don't need anything stage powerful, just something to play at home, maybe rarely with a drum and guitar, also at home. The rest of my play is direct to the computer, with a DI.

What do you think would be a good solution, smaller than my amp, but with good sound? Is that possible under 200 euros?

This are the dimensions of the amp:
Dimensions: 30-1/4"W x 25-4/5"H x 18-3/4"D
Weight: 66 lbs.

Thank you very much for all your help!

I did exactly the same thing. Traded my TC Electronics BG250-210 for a Zoom B3n and a EV ZLX15p monitor. I was not very happy with the TC, soundwise my current setup is a big improvemend. For gig's you really need a 15inch monitor, I tested a few monitors and I got the assumption that 10 and 12 inch PA speakers/monitors are more voiced toward use with a subwoofer while 15 inch monitors can handle the deep bass frequencies on their own. For home use (and not selling your Ashdown to use that on gigs) a 10 or 12 inch is suffient and more compact and could be reached within your budget. Many are positive about the Alto speakers, there less expensive as the EV ZLX.

Thank you very much for the response!

I am completely ignorant in this matters. A monitor is best than a cabinet, right? I wanted something smaller than what I have now. And the monitor is passive, right?

Thank you!

A monitor is called monitor because it's for your own stage sound. But actually most of the speakers we're talking about are multi-functional fullrange PA-speakers. Mounted on a pole towards the audience it's a PA speaker. Placed as a wedge towards you (and a monitor EQ curve engaged) it's a monitor. There are passive (no amp) and active speakers (with buildin amp). Since compact is your goal you want an active speaker. EV ZLX series or ALTO TS series are nice (to my opinion).

Ok, so if I want to use Bass - Zoom B3N - Monitor, this should be active, right? Can't I use a passive monitor and the amp sims on the zoom?

Sorry for all the questions.

Hey Wilmar, I thought you had a Fame speaker. Did you return it? Lame excuse for a nice speed trip on the A3 Autobahn?

Indeed returned it. Too bulky for in my living room. To heavy to take with me. The ZLX is also a 15 inch but much lighter and a little more compact. And yes, I'm always in for a excuse to drive some autobahn :).

If you like your Ashdown why not keep it for when (if) you find yourself with the opportunity to play live.

For home practicing you can run through the B3n and take your output to your home stereo or even just a small bluetooth type speaker (go into the aux-in input) just use an aux cable with an adapter to take it from the large jack output of the B3n to your speaker or stereo. I quite often use just a small Sony speaker like this below. It actually works quite well and you can practice anywhere.

Wow, thank you!

Just bought a JBL charge 3 two days ago!

In the meanwhile, I'll keep looking for a good deal on a monitor.

...for home practice, and even for monitoring for small to medium gigs a Yamaha DBR10 would do a great job. Their bass response is amazing for the size and cost of them.
Agreed, but not real comfortable about the "small to medium gig" part.

Coffee house or bookstore acoustic gigs, yes. With a Cajon, probably.

Step it up to even a gentle drummer with an acoustic kit and an electric guitarist with a small tube amp, and the DBR10 will start to break up on the low end. Especially if you play a 5-string.

That's the dividing line where you either need to supplement an active 10" PA speaker with the matching sub, or step up to a 12.
