New: Zoom B3n Multi-Effects

Ah thank you. I was never able to get a tone I liked with the z-tron. But I've also not liked any Q-tron demos I've heard either so I probably just don't like the Q-tron. Looks like I'll be going for an M82 after all.

I'm glad the distortions have had a jump in quality. They were pretty good on the MS60-B, it had a better sounding ODB3 then the actual ODB3 I used to own.

It may well be that most of the distortion models are the same, but just a ton of new ones have been added like the RC Booster, Mad Professor Blueberry, and B3K/B7K.

The Bass Big Muff on the old gen is much better than the NYC Muff on the B3n though. No BBM on the new one for some reason!

Honestly the B3k and B7k are what made me head-turn and take a look at the pedal again.

I'm starting to lean away from the pedal again though. I was playing around with my sub'n up and my Rumbles OD and was able to get some pretty fuzzy sounding tones, especially with the octaves going. I do really like my amps OD, which poses an issue with how I want to use the Zoom.

I essentially want to stick it before my Orbital Mod so I can use the Darkglass distortions into the mods. But the main use of the pedal would be delay and looper. So to get my delays sounding properly with the Rumble OD (same with the mod) I need them to go in the FX loop. Which in theory I could put the Zoom and Orbital mod in the FX loop but then we go back to the Darkglass pedals (my main reason at reconsidering the Zoom) and I'm just not sure about going E Filter>octave>comp>amp>modulation>Zoom (dirt>modulation>tremelo>delay>looper).

Plus the Zoom wants a lot of mAs. I'd have to replace my main power supply as it's only 1A or run two and power the B3n separately. And while either way I need a new pedalboard I have to double the cost to get one to fit the Zoom as none of the super cheap eBay boards are big enough.

But I lean back to the Zoom because it's cheaper then an EHX Canyon, TC Shaker, EHX BBM/SA MBD (if I do add dirt), and a TC Ditto (for looping with delay available). And unlike the MS60-B I can control patches and move around the pedal with my feet.

It's a tough dilemma, as they're all great pedals and even if I could test them all in store I'm never going to get enough time with em before I buy to really get to know them.

The B3n is notorious for not playing well with other devices on the same power supply. It seems that the choices for the B3n are 1) use a power supply with nothing else on it, or B) employ some hefty isolation. Some folks have managed to get the isolation right, but it seems to be kind of a challenge.

Wow! 180 pages! I hope you don't mind if I don't read it all - and I did use the search function.

How does the B3n compare with the B3 sound wise? Is it worth no XLR and having to plug it in - no batteries?

Yes

Easy - just pay for a good one.

I use the onespot pro.

Do the amp models sound better? What about the BDDI model? Could I use the Darkglass models to get a clean tubey tone? What about a mild overdrive? I find the B3 distortions are very buzzy/square wavey - not natural sounding.
To me the amps sims sound fuller richer. Every effects in the B3N sounds like the blanket has been pull off of it. I don’t really know how else to describe it but I’ve been really impressed.

Does this have an updated chip or processor compared to the B3? I've been looking at all the stuff available online for this unit and I can't find anything about it. I'm reading folks say the sound is better than the B3 - would this be because of updated firmware or what?

Yep - had to get a Truetone 1 Spot Pro CS7 to run my tuner (+ anything else) with the B3n. Now it is dead quiet!

I know nothing about this stuff but I've read somewhere on this thread that "N" series uses new/different algorithm.

Ops, sorry!
I think most of the effects are the same as the B3n (reverb, delays, chrous ecc...) Drive for me are good (though not exceptional, even with the B3n), but in the G5n there are just few with blend/mix control.
Maybe you can try one.
