New: Zoom B3n Multi-Effects

It looks like my B3n's days are now somewhat numbered! :woot:

Line 6 HX Effects

... and it looks to have a programmable effects loop!
Yup! me too @CharlieC . I can have my Black Cat Bass Octave Fuzz in the loop. :) The unit looks impressive. I was thinking about possibly going back to the GK Plex when the update comes out but if this has the 800Rb sim?...

Edit: Eeeeyouch! Just saw the preorder price on Reverb...$599? Yikes! might have to hang on to the 3n a little longer.
Best wishes,
Brent

I don't think I am ready for that much fun yet

The HX Stomp pedal is pretty much everything that the original Atomic Amplifire (3 button) pedal has to offer, but with the big exception that Atomic never jumped on the BASS band wagon, whereas Line 6 includes its fair share of stock bass amps and cabinets in addition to loading custom IRs. They're priced about the same, though I'm not so sure I need to spend $599 to be happy with what I'm currently getting from my G5n/B3n.

It took a while, but Line 6 has probably taken the lead now for "in-the-box" modeling multi-fx pedal solutions that are also geared for bassists. However, Zoom is still the best low-cost alternative IMHO. Good times for bassists.

One question I have about the HX Stomp: do we know how many repeated iterations of an effect/amp/cab can be used in a single patch? Or are there limits to this number of instances? This is the one thing I've always appreciated about Zoom, is that they allow you as many instances of any amp or effect up until you hit the DSP ceiling.

Up to 6 effect blocks or until DSP is maxed-out, with no limit on number of effect instances.

Has anyone played with patches from the b3n to go into a vocoder? (like Iron Lung) Any tips on what would work best? I'd expect something distorted or synthy to get the most tone out of it (vocoder hasn't shown up yet... pre-planning some patches :) )

Yes, that’s right, thanks. But someone on here tested theirs, and said it drew less than that. That’s the number I’m after!

I am guessing there is x mA under a set of test circumstances versus the potential maximum it might draw under the most demanding circumstance (everything maxed out), plus a safety margin, and then rounding up to the nearest standard power supply mA rating. E.g. it might be 312 mA with a reasonable sound, 403 with everything at 11 and a hot input signal and the output distoring it's so hot, 443 with a 10% margin, rounded uo to 500mA.

I think I would go with the factory recommended spec - ie 500ma.

It comes with a wall wart and it needs an isolated supply - if you buy a multi supply brick be sure to get a good one with isolated channels. Most of these will have a couple of 500ma output jacks.
