New: Zoom B3n Multi-Effects

I’ve gone back to an all-analog signal path for bass over the last while. Crowded stages, lots of instruments competing in the mix.

The Zoom stuff is still getting a lot of play in my guitar rig, and serves as a great anti-GAS tonic. New pedal release from [insert name here]? Don’t need it...

These days, the Dingwall is normally Diamond comp to DI or digital wireless.

I just sold my EUB to cover some medical bills, but it was getting the same treatment plus an FDeck HPF Pre series 3. Now I use that combo with my little 25” IBanez ABG.

Nothing wrong with the Zoom, and certainly no reason for me to upgrade to Helix or other expensive options.

It’s just that the gigs I’m currently involved with seem to fit that model best: really great instrument going more or less straight to FOH.

If I was playing in a trio, I would yank the G5n out immediately, in order to fill out some more space.

All analog path, digital wireless. Neat trick.
:roflmao::cool::smug::woot:

Shoulda seen that one coming!

What I really meant, was no modeling. Or other effects besides a touch of EQ at the board, the merest hint of compression, and HPF for anything with piezo pickups.

To be fair, I don’t generally use the wireless either. With 5-9 people on stage most of the time, IEM’s and competent FOH personnel, there’s not a lot of incentive to “unplug”.

Has anyone had any issues powering the B3N in a pedalboard? I just got one of those Donner power supplies, and seems to keep cycling power after playing for a couple of minutes. I have it connected to a 9V out, which seems like it should work.

I don’t also see the same problem with other units (which at the moment is just a Future Impact and an Iron Lung), so I’m not certain the power block is faulty.

Hey Dudes,
Do you think we will see another B3n update at Namm this year or do you think that's it? I would love to see a few more amp models. GK, Hartke, Orange, maybe? But overall I'm still quite satisfied.
What do you guys think?
Best wishes,
Brent
if I were Zoom I would release one new amp to keep us all happy - alongside the next generation with added ones.

Well, ZOOM has got something new brewing for guitarists...no idea of price point, but I'd guess it would be on the (as always) inexpensive side of things.

That may well be the ugliest product I’ve seen in a while!

I guess it’s this generations b1xon.

Except it's the guitar version. Will there be a B1-4? There isn't a B5n. I'd be tempted by a G1-4 if I had not got so much other stuff I can almost certainly manage to get something viable for electric guitar with a B1on, B2, B9 or a Bass POD XT and an Award Session JD-10 and/or Boss turbo overdrive.

Are those TRS outs mic or line level? If they're line only, then a TRS to XLR adapter doesn't help.

How would an XLR connection that is line level change that? More to the point what FOH doesn't have line and mic level inputs? All that said, the Stomp can be set to mic or line level outputs in the settings.

As an aside, based on my experience with Helix Native, I'm not a fan of the Helix line but felt the claim that it doesn't have balanced outputs needed to be corrected. Next time they should use the Line6 HX Effects as an example because it does not have balanced output or amp/cab sims which a lot of its fans think is /facepalm

Seeing you are on this thread.. and seem to have experience of the Helix... in terms of amp and cab sims - is there much difference in quality between the two? In the way the amp models on the B3n are noticeably better than the B3 - is there similar differences between B3n and Helix?

Helix products have more variety of bass amps at the moment, and IIRC the products with cab modeling will allow you to load 3rd party cabinet IRs (impulse responses). That only matters if the stock sounds of the Helix don't float your boat. YMMV. But it does give Helix products a huge leg up in flexibility since there are a ton of 3rd party cab IRs available (Ownhammer, Dr. Bonkers, etc.).

Though I don't yet have a Helix product, I can personally vouch for the B3n's cab sims as being worthy, though not terribly flexible. Once I spent the gig time dialing in certain tweaks to my taste, I've been satisfied and haven't changed those settings in over a year.
