New: Zoom B3n Multi-Effects

This is a factual observation, as demonstrated above.
Why would somebody react so strongly to my observations of my OWN gear?!

The strong reaction has nothing to do with gear, but with your dropping accusatory bombs in your post earlier on. I have to admit, though, you deflect the topics nicely. LOL. But this is getting tired, and now you've run away, it seems.

Yeah, but you made your questionable behavior claim before that post. Can you please cite another example?

The "questionable behaviour" statement was made in the context of the whole post quoted at the very bottom of this message:

I didn't "run away" - I've been replying to a few inbox messages :).

Your persistence on this matter, illustrates my point, that any criticism is met with passive-aggressive comments.

There seems to be some type of insecurity surrounding budget gear that, when it's NOT favoured by somebody - those who use it become angry/hostile, as if their budget/choices are being disparaged.

What's weird is that I actually use The Zoom B3n daily (for a year now), and know its benefits & short-comings like the back of my hand!

When I played it side-by-side with a Helix Stomp - The disparity of quality between just the Aguilar simulations alone was shocking!

In the Helix Stomp Thread, there is no harassment/badgering when somebody dislikes a feature, or implementation - there seems to be a general confidence and mature attitude towards the product.

But, In the Zoom B3n thread - even the slightest hint of critique is met with numerous comments from certain members trying to dimiss, or belittle any unfavourable observations.

My new inbox messages tell me that I'm not the only one who has noticed this behaviour! (thanks guys!!).

You're welcome.

Well then, The Helix Stomp is your best bet!

Be careful on these forums, as I've discovered that some forum members are actually affiliated with Zoom, but pretend to be objective customers!

You'll see them all over the internet, basically advertising Zoom products under the guise of "interested customers"!

Any mild criticism you make of a Zoom product - these posters/members will be right there to downplay your observations and convince everybody else that the zoom product is better than it actually is.

You'll even see them comparing budget Zoom products with gear that is clearly superior (Kemper, Axe FX, Helix, Headrush etc), and trying to convince people that there is little/no difference in quality!

Ask yourself: why would these members be on various forums like: (Talkbass, Basschat, The Gearpage, Gearslutz, etc) always posting release material directly from The Zoom Corporation, pasting the same comments on each forum, and passive-aggressively defending every zoom deficiency in quality?

You will also notice that their comments receive "likes" from the exact same people everytime they post something regarding a Zoom product on talkbass!

I'm glad that some forum members have finally noticed this questionable behaviour, but were wise enough to ignore the hyperbole and buy The Helix anyway....

For the most part, I personally don't care about what goes on elsewhere, and you're certainly entitled to your opinion, as am I, and anyone else. You've still done nothing to point directly to individuals on this thread/forum (the great unknown Zoom affiliates), nor point directly to questionable post behavior - save my poor attempt at an over-sensationalized debating technique - with respect to discussions of ZOOM gear and that of others.

You think the Helix stuff blows doors on ZOOM. Good on you! Maybe 95% of people out there agree with you. Doesn't matter one lick to me. And if because of that, you have a diminished view of my POV, then so be it. I've lived through worse. LOL.

I can't help you if you mistake my zealous support for what I think are great, inexpensive products, as being overly defensive in nature when comparing to others. If they are, I still don't care. All JMHO, and take it FWIW.

It's a two way street, though.

Hey folks!

@jimfist also does the same thing on other forums, and has been called out for it before.......

Just read the second comment on page 48 of this link - to see Jimfist in action!

Invalid Link Removed

Keep on reading what is said about his behaviour, if you care to see for yourself! (I'm definitely not the only one who picked up on this, so thank you for sharing this link in my inbox "mystery talkbass users"! ;))

@jimfist - You should probably take it easy on people who don't share your views - Zoom threads worldwide don't always need to be filled with your opinions/negative responses.....:rollno:

Done taking your bait. let the chips land where they may. That's not going to stop me from posting my INDIVIDUAL feelings on the topic, regardless of your "gang mentality" veiled threats. Oooohhh, look what he wrote on those other posts. Soooo Meeeean. Grow up. Man, I thought I was a piece of work. Got nothing on you, dude.

Right, but I was curious about specific examples, as well as specific examples of hostility throughout the course of the thread beyond what has happened today.

I've already admitted the Helix is fantastic, and it don't matter none to me what everyone else chooses to use.

I really didn't see any hostility coming your way when you made claims about the Zoom unit. I saw it start brewing when you made claims about forum members. Which is why I was hoping to see some examples of things so I can better see where you're coming from.

Every single post I have made on a Zoom product, on this website has a @jimfist response!

It's like the guy is stalking me - even when his name is not mentioned - "Nightmare On Zoom Street" bro.

If your search my name on this forum - you'll see that he responds negatively to everything I post (regarding Zoom) - even when my comments are favourable!

Why does NOBODY else on this forum seem to respond like @jimfist to a Zoom criticism?!

Seems a little fishy bro! ......:roflmao: (I'll stop now!).

right... so from the start I don’t want nothing to do with your other comments about other forum members - my life is too short to care... but back to the nub of the discussion about gear...
I don’t think it is clearly superior, sure the Zoom is in a plastic box and there has been money saved in the manufacture - but I guess what I can’t tell is what difference in sound quality there is in the audio-to-digital conversion, DSP and digital-to-audio conversions, at one level other experiences tell me that once you reach a certain level it’s all just varieties of Good.
I noticed the lead between the B3 and B3n soundwise. Say all I wanted was a Aguilar amp and cab sim - would I notice a big difference between a helix and a B3n?
That’s what my question is about.

Anyone feel free to chip in, whoever you’re on the payroll for, I don’t care ;)

Fair enough!....

Compared to The Zoom B3n, The Helix Stomp Aguilar sims (and most of the effects) are superior in terms of depth, responsiveness, realism and fidelity.

It REALLY helps to have both pedals side-by-side, but that is not required to notice the differences in quality.

I would liken it to video quality e.g. Zoom B3n = (720p @ 30 fps) Vs. Helix Stomp = (4K @ 60 fps).

Clarity and realism that is really felt, once observed in person....

Eh. Helix is better. But can you tell in the mix? Will your bandmates be able to tell? Will the audience be able to tell? And will that difference be worth hundreds of dollars? The B3n is great, and suitable for almost any use. It's not the greatest, but it is great. And cheap. A fantastic value.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Helix. I am planning on getting one again some day when I have some extra spending money. But there is definitely a case of diminishing returns here, and a lot of what you get for that extra money on the Helix is for the bells and whistles, extra features, better UI, more IO, flexible switch assignment, USB audio, and so on. I mean, it's an amazingly good all-in-one package, for sure. The sound difference is there, but negligible in the grand scheme of things.

IMO, of course. YMMV.

Well, your reasoning would apply to any pieces of disparately priced bass gear, no?

After hearing both side-by-side, I decided to keep my Zoom B3n!!

Not for the sound quality, but for the 'reasonable' switching/scrolling ability, which I feel Zoom is superior in, for live use.
I have my Zoom B3n on a large pedalboard, and The Helix has specific power requirements that would mean reformatting a large pedaltrain + purchasing a new PSU & an additional midi switcher pedal?!?

It just wasn't worth it for me, personally.

Also, we should consider if the pedal will be used for live performance, recording, or both?
I will never again use my zoom b3n to track at mine, or anybody else's recording studio, but The Helix Stomp clearly excels in a studio recording environment - (this may not matter to some).

These are the things that one should consider before forking out large sums of cash on features that may not benefit you....

Of course it applies to any other similar situations. A Lexus would definitely be nicer than my little Honda...but is it worth it to me? No. Definitely not.

Oddly, after I sold off my Helix, the thing I missed most was the USB interface. It worked flawlessly. No noticeable latency, no setup headaches, perfect sound. I've used a lot of different interfaces and had at least minor issues or setup difficulties with most of them.

It's definitely a case of knowing what you need, what you want, what each product has, and how much those different features are worth to you.

LOL, Charlie. I'm entertaining going the same route with the Atomic Amplifire Bass Box (just announced at NAMM) paired with the B3n rather than the HX Stomp.

Though I never got to the Helix, this is exactly what I found with the AxeFxII. Most other musicians that have liked my tone have only concentrated on the bass I'm using - they assume my sound is direct to FOH from the bass. They have no idea how much my multi-fx modeler is contributing to the tone (a lot).

Enough with the bickering back-and-forth, guys-it doesn’t belong in this thread.

@Frellin Smesh unless you have proof that someone is working for Zoom, cut the accusatory crap out. Everyone here is welcome to post their opinions and don’t need to be questioned on their motivation without any proof that it’s anything but sincere.

Excuse me?!?

Where the did that come from, and why are you talking to me like that?? o_O

You choose to publicly reprimand me, while ignoring the disrespectful "Wife/Child Abuser" comments that were directed towards me?

That disagreement ended hours ago - and what's with the taking sides without even asking any questions first?

How do you know that I don't have proof, without any enquiry?
(A simple, private message would have been more appropriate, don't you think?)

How can a specific forum member post product links from a corporate website, BEFORE those links even exist to the public?

(Yes I checked, and you can all check too!.......come at me bro!!)

Conjecture based on questions you do not have an answer to is not proof. Again, you will not be accusing members here unless you have proof, which includes generic “a bunch of you here work for Zoom but I’m not naming names.” That’s not going to fly.

Hey, just wanted to acknowledge this point as I posted earlier in the thread about the new 2019 Zoom products coming.

If you google "Zoom b1 four" or "Zoom G1 Four" you get a link to the Zoom site that has since been taken down. However, you can still find the Google cached version of the webpages (just serach for "CachedView" and paste the link).

No need to be Zoom employee to find these pages. I found them by accident when I googled for the B1.
