New: Zoom B3n Multi-Effects

That's pretty cool that you can store up to 7 effects in one patch. not that I need that many in a patch, but still that's pretty cool. and the way you can navigate patches is quite intriguing. I would like to get this multi-effects processor when it's released.
Remember that amp models have to be accompanied with a cab, so that's an automatic 2 slots there. Add a compressor, EQ, envelope filter, and ocatve ... you might be surprised how quickly a patch can be filled. :D

Okay I'll keep that in mind. when it comes to certain patches, I only need one amp model or one preamp model. everything else will be effects and a noise gate to reduce unwanted noises. speaking of amp models, I did looked up the list of amp and cab models it has and I'm disappointed that it does not include an amp model based on a gallien-krueger or a hartke amp model. that's sort of a deal breaker for me because I've always liked those amp models on a zoom b3(which I've owned for about 5 years now). I did wish it contains amp models based those amps. perhaps something more modern like the gk 700rb or 1001rb and perhaps the hartke lh500 or kilo, but thankfully it does contain the mxr m80 model to make up for that. I always thought that the clean channel of the mxr m80 sounds very gallien-krueger like. still, I like to purchase the zoom b3n just to see it's take on of the darkglass b3k and b7k.

All amp models are 2 slot entities in the new scheme, and a cabinet is 1 slot, so for full amp modeling with cab sims it is a minimum of 3 slots, leaving a max of 4 slots for everything else. IMO, best use of the B3n is for either: all front end effects taking advantage of the 7 available slots - or - as a back end amp/cab sim with post processing (EQ, noise reduction, compression) with other separate pedals providing front end effects. A bass version of the G5n would be great to cover all the bases, but Zoom is not releasing one.

Another strategy is to use a single slot "drive" pedal for preamp tone (limited, though, in terms of tone/gain control) and then use a cab block to get the flavor of the amp, since much of a bass amp's tone is due to the cabinet itself, perhaps even moreso than the preamp in many cases.

Remember that Zoom is going to provide additions to the B3n in the form of downloads via Guitar Lab software. GK and Hartke are icons in the bass industry, so I'd be shocked if ZOOM didn't offer models of their products at some point in time, hopefully sooner rather than later. I'm not a betting man, but I'd bet on that. I have no way of knowing this for a fact, but man it would be a brutally poor strategy to NOT have GK/Hartke in the stable.

Zoom is known to respond to such questions via FaceBook, so maybe you can pop the question there.

Japan I believe has them.

You can believe it! :D

Chances are I'll be using the second case scenario more often with my Chapman Stick, as I'm plugged into full range combo amp. (SWR Natural Blonde). At least for the styles I'm playing now I probably won't be going too crazy with drive or heavy distoritions. I might occasionally use bass chorus, envelope filter, and octave ... but we'll see.

As I mentioned earlier, I already have a Ditto X4 looper and a Beat Buddy, so I won't need to use the rhythm or looping functions on the B3n.

Well until it shows up I'll continue to use Bias and JamUp on iOS. When I get mine I'll try to post a comparative review. It will be interesting to see how the Zoom, an embedded system purpose built for the task, will compare to software written for a general purpose operating system that happens to have great sound capabilities.

are you gigging with Bias/JamUp?

That does seem to make up for it. I'll have to check that out.
