Newbie Question On Main Speakers

I'm kinda embarrassed to ask this, but hopefully someone can help.

Obviously, I'm a beginner at live sound.

Today I traded something for a pair of Cerwin-Vega 2 way passive 15" mains that I'd like to use. Currently I am using Seismic Audio mains on my amateur PA, but I don't trust them and the sound quality is, eh.....fair.

Anyway, the C-V's have a toggle switch on the back. Position #1 says its +1/-1, and position #2 says it's +2/-2.

I don't know what this means.

These will be connected to a powered mixer, each speaker will have a dedicated power amp (The mixer has a 400W amp for each main, and a 400W amp for monitors) and they will not be daisy chained. The connection to the amp will be via speakon cable.

What should I set the switch for?

If I may ask, what does the switch do? What does it mean? If it's real in-depth I probably wouldn't understand it.

For full range amplification, use the +1/-1 setting. The +2/-2 is used if you're bi-amping, then the 1 connections get the low range and the 2 conections take the hi. The + and - just represent the positive and negative connections on the speaker.
